Found Safe Lacey Overby, 37, Kidnapped, DeSoto, Tx 1 Feb 2024

If he reached in to put the car in park, wouldn't that be awkward? On most automatics the lever for that is to the right, behind the steering wheel. On my car, you'd have to lean all the way in with your head in the car to reach between the driver and passenger seats. Assuming then the victim's response is to freeze and not slap his hands or try to roll the window up higher.

Either her doors would have to already be unlocked or he would have then had to unlock the door to hop in the back.

He would have had to do serious planning and maybe practicing to pull that off.

She was driving a 2015 Chevy Malibu. The gear shift is located between the front car seats.

I'm not saying what this woman says happened didn't happen, but A LOT of the details don't add up.

1) He assaulted her by choking her and forced her to take some pills.
He made her take pills before forcing her to DRIVE FOR 8 HOURS?
WHY? What did these pills do?

2) They stopped three times -- once for gas, once for him to use the bathroom, and once when he got out of the car.
Why didn't she try to flee while he was in the bathroom?
Why didn't she try to discretely warn someone that she was in danger when they were at the gas station?

3) He took her phone, license, and a picture of her daughter.
How did she send the emergency text with his description to her daughter if he took her phone?
She told her daughter not to call the phone because she hid it. Why wouldn't she also silence it?
The police would've been able to track her cell phone location after her daughter called 911.

4) The man told her to drive through the border, not to the border.
So, did she? HOW? He took her license.
Wouldn't she also need a passport?
DeSoto LE said she was located by border patrol in Laredo while trying to cross the border.

5) She pressed the OnStar button as soon as the man left her car, but she said the OnStar employee didn't seem to understand that she was right there at the border.
If she was at the border, why even call OnStar?
Why not flag down one of the officers?
Why wouldn't OnStar be able to see her exact location?
Isn't that the whole point of OnStar?

I think it's important to believe all victims of violence (especially female victims), and I'll continue to do so until there's proof to the contrary. But with that said -- it's not always easy to put my money where my mouth is when the details don't add up.

I have the same concerns.

I did address these points in an earlier post. For what it's worth, Border Patrol Agents are a distinct force from Field Enforcement Officers of the CBP; assuming it was indeed the former that found her, they are responsible for manning the border area to monitor illegal crossings into the US, not checking documentation of those exiting, and thus would not have stopped her car without the prior alert. MOO.

Huerta said Overby was found hours later trying to enter Mexico but was alone, driving her car.

Correct. I don't think this contradicts either of my posts.
tl;dr:
  1. There is effectively no systematic checking of documents or persons when exiting the US/entering Mexico, even though legal requirements may exist to this effect (i.e. many US citizens technically cross illegally by virtue of not presenting their documents).
  2. Border Patrol (who wear green uniforms, distinct from the navy blue ones of FEOs) would not normally be stopping vehicles exiting the US.
  3. It makes sense that they would have made a special effort to stop her after being alerted.
MOO.

Y'all - if you've been following this case you need to read this article
"He had two different phones, and I overheard him talking to someone like he's in trouble," Overby said. "Like a boss was screaming at him. You could sense that his body movements and stuff had changed."

Overby told us they stopped a few times -- at least once, for gas. She added that she tried to drive slowly or erratically, and even tried to clip a cop car to bring attention to the fact she was being abducted.

When asked why she didn't run away when she had the chance, Overby said she didn't want to risk her family getting hurt.

Overby is saying she was assaulted, and yet
“Overby ultimately was taken to a nearby hospital in Laredo, where she said she wasn't even given a proper sexual assault exam.”“Police have interviewed Overby, yet she still has the gauze, her scrubs and underwear from the night of the alleged abduction.”
Why would they not be collecting evidence when someone claims there is a crime? Even if they doubt her, it just seems like basic due diligence. And that they’ve said it’s an ongoing investigation already implies they haven’t found enough to determine she’s making false allegations.

This article says that a medical exam was done.

It also says that when she crossed the border, she told police that her kidnapper was still in the car.

I know we have other articles posted here in which she states that the kidnapper got out of the car right before she crossed the border.

It’s getting a little difficult to keep track of the stories.
