Ulbrich was 24 years old on the early morning of Oct. 29, 1995, when she was dragged to death beside a speeding car along a more than 4-mile route from the industrial South Meadows of Hartford to the southern edge of Goodwin Park in Wethersfield, where her body ultimately was found.
Polaroids from the case file — never released to the public — document the almost indescribable gore along more than half the route, which law enforcement officials believe is the largest crime scene ever recorded in Connecticut.
Yet, despite a series of witness accounts and years of poring over evidence, investigators were never able to bring a case against a suspect in the 1990s. The crime predated mainstream DNA testing and subsequent attempts to test evidence kept from the scene in the early 2000s also did not identify a suspect.
