***Unsolved Brutal Homicide of 96-year-old Florida Grandmother***
On July 16th, 2010, Lila G. Leach was viciously attacked at her home in the 26000 block of Northwest Third Avenue in Newberry, Florida (Alachua County). She had only lived in that home for two months.
Leach was beaten to a point where her granddaughter says she was unrecognizable.
Lila died Sept. 6, 2010, seven weeks after the horrific beating. She would have celebrated her 97th birthday later that same month.
In 2018, Detective Lance Yaeger of the Alachua County Sheriffs Office said that they had made some progress and now have clues that lead to at least a male suspect.
The sheriff's office said they had DNA Labs International re-examine the evidence. The evidence narrowed the search for the male suspect and possibly other suspects. They hope that advances in DNA technology will help them solve this case in the near future.
Alachua County detectives continue to work this horrible murder and have partnered with Alachua County Crime Stoppers Inc and the Florida Sheriffs Association Criminal Apprehension Assistance Program to offer a reward.
If you have any information on this case please call Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP(7867).
