Hello everyone! I am looking for help obtaining any knowledge, help or guidance. Four years ago from this past November I received a knock on my door from a local detective and CPS. They said it was very important and they needed to speak with me. I had my children go upstairs so I can speak with them. I was told by the detective that FBI from Virginia contacted them about my ex husband. They said he was involved in an undercover sting operation online. He told the undercover officer that he was SA our daughter in her sleep (she was 8 years old at that time, we had 50/50 custody… no she never disclosed) and also SA his girlfriend’s 1 year old daughter which lived with the girlfriend and him full time.
I was mortified at this news, I signed a written agreement to keep my daughter safe from him with no contact with CPS that day, and as they left immediately called my attorney. The next day as he was arriving back home from a work trip he was detained and they conducted a search warrant of his home and took only his phone. They interviewed him and then released him. I went to court for a 209A. And according to his parents he signed himself into a mental health facility because he was saying he wanted to hurt himself.
At this point months go by and I have no news, I don’t know anything about the case as they could only tell me so much. He apparently just disappeared. Which I don’t believe, I think his parents did and still talk to him. I try calling the detective and they said no updates. A year goes by, I call again and that detective resigned and there was a new detective. He said he would update me when anything came up. Another year goes by, all which I’m still fighting the court to keep the 209A and fight for sole custody.
In October 2024 I was granted sole custody. My lawyer finally got a call from the state police stating the reviewed all contents on his phone and there’s “no evidence” and basically dropped the case.

My issue here is, if there was an FBI undercover sting…. Why would they pass this to local officials? And why wouldn’t they share their evidence? Why wouldn’t the local officials reach back out to them and tell them they couldn’t find anything on the phone?
It bothers me all of the time knowing he is out there possibly still around us. Potentially still doing this to another child/children. I just want justice for my daughter and for him to pay for what he did.
Any information on what else I can do or who I can reach out to would be appreciated.

Hey MsQuirkyCat, I am truly sorry that you've had this experience. No child or parent should have to deal with this. I do hope that if your daughter ever remembers any of the events she is able to heal from them and move forward with your support.

It sounds like your ex was talking to who he thought were other creeps online. During those conversations he admitted to certain illegal acts. However, once it was investigated authorities weren't able to find any evidence of the crimes.

It is very possible that he's still under surveillance and they are waiting for him to slip up. I can only suggest that you focus on keeping yourself and your daughter safe and healthy, because we can't control what the law considers worthy of prosecution. If him admitting to having done it isn't enough, then what is?
