Losing GOP candidate arrested in string of shootings at New Mexico Democrats' homes

A failed candidate for the New Mexico state House described by police as an "election denier" was arrested Monday in a string of shootings at the homes of state and local Democratic leaders.

Republican Solomon Peña is accused of conspiring with and paying four men to carry out shootings at the Albuquerque-area homes of two Bernalillo County commissioners and two state legislators, Albuquerque police said. No one was hurt in the shootings.

Peña might have been motivated by anger over his loss in November, police said. Police spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said at a news conference early Monday evening that Peña alleged his defeat was the result of election fraud.

This story is absolutely insane on so many levels.

I know we're supposed to be politics-free, so let's do our best on this thread. No sane person would think that anything like this is right.

I heard an interview on the radio yesterday, when the news broke, of a woman whose house was shot at, and whoever did it aimed directly at their daughter's bedroom, and would have shot her had she been in bed! Of course, I have no idea if they knew the layout of the house, but that's really scary.

We were getting ready to walk into the zoo when we saw a whole string of police vehicles drive by. It turns out they were on their way to arrest this individual. He is known to have told the people he hired to shoot at the houses to go earlier and aim lower, because their previous attempts had failed. I'm so glad they got him before anyone was hurt, or even worse.

I try to understand the nuances of American politics but I just....
So this guy, Solomon Pena was convicted in 2008 of smash and grab robbery schemes. He served seven years. Yet when some concerned New Mexicans, including another potential candidate, voiced concern over his criminal past a judge ruled he could stay on the ballot. His legal viewpoint was, Sure, he ain't allowed to vote but that doesn't stop him from being on the ballot! <modsnip - political commentary> So you have a violent offender who isn't allowed to vote but can be on the ballot and a pathological liar who has embroidered his past so much it can be seen from the moon.
