"Around 8:45 a.m. Saturday, a person walking along the shore near the Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster, Massachusetts, discovered the partial remains of a human body...The district attorney's office said preliminary indications suggest the body had been in the water for "a considerable amount of time."

Approximate location: Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club · 2907 Main St, Brewster, MA 02631

Ocean Edge Resort is on the inside of Cape Cod Bay. There is fairly significant crossflow between the Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, but I would look for people lost and missing locally first. Scituate, Sandwich, Wellfleet, Truro, Provincetown. Lots of fishing boats sink in that area. There was the Emmy Rose a couple of years ago, and the Dad Sea Cave a few years before that. Plenty more people fall overboard and don't make the news. There was a little boy swept away in the Merrimack River a few months back as well, though that's pretty far from Brewster.

Gloucester, which is much farther north, maintains a list of those who are lost at sea locally. It includes some people from the Bay as well.

Depending on how "considerable" a "considerable amount of time" means, the remains could be decades old, in which case it could be one of thousands of people.

Probably a long shot but my first thought is that it could be Abbie Flynn, missing from Gloucester since February 2020.

Several years ago, a boat ran aground on Martha's Vineyard with a Mom & daughters aboard, but Dad missing.

The story was -- odd.

Years later a partial leg was recovered & iirc identified as Dad, who was declared deceased.

We have a thread, which of course I cannot find this morning.

Did manage to Google-Fu an article:

Considerable amount of time, imho?

Hm. Martha's Vineyard to Brewster would require the body to go around Chatham and the full length of the outer cape, around P'town, and then back the length of the outer cape. The current does run that direction, but it's a long way for a body to move and still hold together enough to be recognized as remains.

The local speculation is that it's someone who jumped from a bridge earlier this month: Remains Found On Brewster Beach Could Close Case On Bridge Suicide

This article has a picture of the location. I have eaten lunch at that spot half a dozen times over the years : Human Remains Found On Brewster Beach

Thanks, @carbuff, I should have checked a map!!!

Since you brought up lunch on the Cape, I once had Christmas Day lunch with the first Superintendent of Cape Cod National Seashore. That was a while ago!

Well, that's definitely cool! I'll bet they had some good stories.

My grandfather worked with him in the Park Service. I remember the event, but not the adult conversation. My feet didn't touch the floor sitting on a phone book in one of their dining room chairs.

Later as a teenager, I was able to spend time with family friends who were assigned to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and oh yeah there are stories.

And, Elvis Presley drove a truck for my grandfather during a road building project.

We now return to Brewster, Mass from the Laughing Nostalgia Tour.
