SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Authorities are asking again for the public’s help in locating a missing Springfield man.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that 63-year-old Gary Belder went missing in July 2021. Investigators believe that he left his Boston Road home that morning, but never came back.

Belder is 6′1″ tall and weighs 200 pounds. He walks with a cane and has a noticeable limp.

Chicopee police found the remains of Gary Belder, 63, a lifelong Springfield resident who’s been reported since July 8, 2021, according to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.

On March 23, 2023, Chicopee police received a call of potential human remains in a woodland area off Memorial Drive. Police found remains that appeared to be there for an extended period and immediately launched an investigation into the death.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner positively identified the dead body as missing 63-year-old Gary Belder, according to the Hampden County DA’s office.
