"Residents will notice an increased police presence in the immediate vicinity as police fire and other rescuers with specialized training remain at the scene at this hour. The increased activity does not indicate any ongoing danger to the community," reads the joint statement

Massachusetts State Police as well as Avon Police and Fire were seen searching outside a home on East High Street for the man who was known to walk the neighborhood.

Avon fire officials say the search efforts are focused on an old well on the property that had been searched before.
On Wednesday, the Avon Police Department shared on Facebook that 45-year-old Keith McKechnie had not been seen since he left his home on East High Street on Sept. 7.

Investigators have been working with a number of agencies concerning the disappearance of a Massachusetts man and are seeking assistance from the public.

Avon resident Keith McKechnie left his residence on E. High St. on 9/7/23 and has not returned.

He is a 45-year-old Caucasian male, 5’9”, 275 lbs., with a waist length brown / gray “dreadlock” hairstyle and a full brown / gray beard.

AVON, Mass — Search crews retrieved a body from a well in Avon Saturday night hours after renewing the search for a man missing since September.

On Wednesday, Avon police posted on Facebook that they were searching for 45-year-old Keith McKechnie after he went missing on September 7.

The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office announced the man's body was retrieved from the well in the East High Street area and later said family members at the scene had identified him as Keith McKechnie.

...Christine Connolly, a cousin of the victim, said that the family made calls for the well to be examined. "We felt something nefarious happened because Keith didn’t have his wallet, cell phone or his glasses," Connolly told NBC affiliate WBTS. "The glasses were found by the well on the ground. We were told that they had determined due to the size of the well and Keith’s build, he wouldn’t fit."
