Troopers responding to a report of a dead woman in a car at the airport’s Central Parking garage around 6:30 p.m. identified the victim as 31-year-old Margaret Mbitu, who had been reported missing by her family on Monday, according to Massachusetts State Police.

A subsequent investigation identified 40-year-old Kevin Kangethe as a suspect in Mbitu’s death, according to state police

“The entire family, everybody’s down,” her mother said. “I’m not myself right now. This is heartbreaking.”

She also said that she believes the suspected killer is someone her daughter was dating.

*eta:
Mbtiu was reported missing Wednesday by BAMSI, a Brockton-based charity that said she worked there. According to their missing persons post, she was last seen leaving work on Monday in Halifax, Massachusetts, and was driving a white SUV.

"The United States has an extradition treaty with Kenya, so things look very good in terms of Kenyan authorities cooperating," Coffindaffer said

"She was warm, caring, and loved by everyone she worked with, both staff and the people she cared for in our group homes," BAMSI said. "As an agency, we are in mourning over the loss of such an amazing young woman."

Her family is praying for justice. "We're just praying that the Lord may give the family peace and above everything that her culprit, this person may be arrested," Wambu said

Good point. And.... wait, there is more....

For Kenya, the extradition treaty is more than a piece of paper signed by somebody some time ago. Rather, Kenya has a long tradition of actively cooperating with US law enforcement in both security and criminal matters.

As a result, my bet is that the Kenyan police are going to be actively looking for him. Though there are some areas semi- controlled by both Muslim and Christian insurgents where Kenyan law enforcement may have limited abilities, these are remote tribal areas.

After spending time in the US, Kenneth may find it difficult to adjust to life in such an area- if he was ever from such an area to begin with.

Margaret Mbitu, 31

Kangethe was arrested at a nightclub in Nairobi, Kenya, on Monday, Jan. 29, and authorities will bring him back to Boston to stand trial, state police said.

Mbitu’s family is relieved and happy about the news, saying in a statement:
“The long hand of the law is finally catching up with Maggie's murder suspect. We have confirmed with law enforcement and the DA of the arrest of Mr. Kangethe in Kenya and are waiting on the next step of extradition and eventual prosecution. We want to thank our friends, law enforcement here in the US and in Kenya and the community at large for the efforts in the capture of Mr. Kangethe. We are confident that the truth will prevail and that justice for Maggie will be achieved.”

In a country where corruption is endemic and the police force has been ranked for decades the most corrupt institution in the country, Kangethe’s escape raised suspicion the police officers on duty that day may have been bribed to allow his escape.

The four officers who were on duty at the report office that day have been suspended awaiting disciplinary action and may face prosecution.
