Date of Discovery: October 28, 2000
Location of Discovery: Methuen, Essex County, Massachusetts
Estimated Date of Death: 6 months to 5 years prior
State of Remains: Decomposed
Cause of Death: Homicide

Physical Description
Estimated Age: 35-45 years old
Race: White
Sex: Male
Height: 5'11" to 6'5"
Weight: 165 lbs.
Hair: Brown with some gray, about six or seven inches long, and had a goatee.
Eye Color: Unknown
Distinguishing Marks/Features: Thin build.

Identifiers
Dentals: Available. Most of his molars were missing on the top and bottom, resulting in a wide space in the middle of his teeth on the bottom.
Fingerprints: Not available.
DNA: Available.

Clothing & Personal Items
Clothing: Maverick blue jeans with a 34-inch waist; Texas Steer black, construction boots, approximately size 12; a blue long sleeve shirt with white stripes, similar to what a mechanic might wear, with a rag in the pocket. He was also wearing a navy blue t-shirt, and size 32 Fruit of the Loom briefs. The boots and blue jeans used to be sold at Kmart stores.
Jewelry: Unknown
Additional Personal Items: Unknown

Circumstances of Discovery
The victim was murdered and buried in a in a four foot deep grave at a construction site in Methuen, MA. The body was discovered wrapped in a blanket. The land sits at the corner of Pelham Street and Aegean Drive, across the street from the Nabisco plant, in the Marsh Corner neighborhood.

At the time there wasn't much at the location. But it is close to two major highways, and just minutes from the New Hampshire border. The grave is located close to a dirt road that once led right to this spot.

Police think the man might be from another part of the country because of the way he was dressed. Maverick blue jeans and Texas Steer black boots were not common clothes in the Boston area. The man had work rags in his pocket, all potential clues to what he did for a living.

There is a possibility he was some kind of mechanic or somebody who worked with his hands. There were some items found on his person that led police to believe a he was a mechanic, a truck driver or a biker.

The brands of his boots and jeans were apparently from K mart stores... is there a chance they were from Canadian K Mart stores? The description and timeline fit in with a man that went missing from Quebec. Apparently he went south for work, and his car was never recovered... Im wondering if he was lured to a location, someone murdered him, and used his car to enter the US and later buried him...would the car have been flagged in the US as well as Canada in those days? :/

James Gregory Clark caught my eye as a potential match. I wish there was more about his personal life like was he a trucker, biker, mechanic, etc but there isn't. The circumstances simply say he's missing. His physical descriptors are all spot on along with missing (Jan. 1, 1997) and estimated YOD dates (1995-1997). He was last seen in Austin, TX which would fit with the suspicion that the UID person was likely from the South based on his clothing. With a very old, untrained eye, the two images have a strong resemblance even down to the parted hair. Your thoughts?

Physical Description
Estimated Age:
35-45 years old (39yo)
Race: White (white)
Sex: Male
Height: 5'11" to 6'5" Est. (6'1")
Weight: 165 lbs. Est. (170)
Hair: Brown with some gray, about six or seven inches long, and had a goatee. (Bushy, long brown hair with goatee)
Eye Color: Unknown
Distinguishing Marks/Features: Thin build. (Thin face)

Editing again to ask if any super sleuthers here could check high school year books in Austin for info on James Gregory Clark and any genealogy databases. I don't have access to either. TIA

No, Chat. It likely hasn't. I hadn't received any feedback on the suggestion, other than likes (which I'm not always sure what that means ), so I let it sit here. But if you think it's worth pursuing, I shall submit James as a potential match. TY for replying.:)

I also think it's a very good possibility, so I went ahead and submitted it just now. I'm sorry to overstep if that was something you wanted to do yourself, I misread your post the first time and thought you were reluctant to do it for some reason. If James turns out to be a match you deserve the credit for finding him, of course :)

TYVM for submitting James. Submissions are not my most favorite task in the world, so no hard feelings there.;) I appreciate you for taking the time and initiative to do so. I've always understood the goal around here is to work as a team to bring home the missing--whatever that has to look like. The satisfaction of knowing someone has him name back and gets to go home to his loved ones is credit enough for me. Thank you!

Dang...you may have found him. Great work! Hopefully a family gets closure soon and whoever killed this man faces the court.

MP14568 William Dennis Merceri went missing from West Springfield, MA on 6/11/1995 at age 47. His height is listed as 6’0”-6’2” and weight of 140-160lbs with brown medium length curly hair. Missing all upper teeth. No clothing description or other identifiers.
Public records show that someone petitioned for Guardianship of Incapacitated of a William D Merceri of Springfield, MA in 1984
There are a lot of folks with the same surname that live/lived in Springfield, MA and I took note that one owned a lawn mower repair business. Maybe William was a dutiful helper.
The sketch is very well done, likeness is uncanny.
