More coming on U.S. Army recruiter from Quincy office who sexually fraternized w Sandra Birchmore, a violation of military rules, a videotape of which shared w another alleged abuser Matthew's twin William Farwell, sources say.

Norfolk County DA Michael Morrissey said he turned the Sandra Birchmore case over to MA AG Andrea Campbell. Gov. Maura Healy was AG when she died. Still nothing from the state despite five MA men, four cops and a U.S. Army recruiter, being accused of abusing Birchmore in an official capacity of power.

Federal investigators found the evidence that was overlooked by the same unit whose case against Karen Read ended in an acquittal, raising questions if state troopers protected a fellow cop who told colleagues he needed to “put crazy back in the bag” weeks before Birchmore’s murder:

Sandra Birchmore’s aunt, who represents her estate in a wrongful death lawsuit, asked a state judge to order an ex-Stoughton police detective’s criminal defense team not to contact her or her immediate family.

In seeking an injunction April 10, Darlene Smith’s lawyers said two investigators working for Matthew Farwell’s public defenders visited her adult son’s apartment unannounced in February and asked him about the wrongful death litigation.

Her request represents a crossover in two separate cases Farwell faces over Birchmore’s death: a federal criminal prosecution accusing him of killing her and her unborn son; and a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Smith in state court. Farwell denies the allegations in both matters

"Farwell's iPhone data reveals that in 2021 and 2022, after Sandra Birchmore's death, his devices accessed pornographic material that suggests that he maintains a sexual interest in teenage girls," the court filing read. "Farwell’s enduring sexual interest in teenage girls, even after Ms. Birchmore’s murder, is a critical aggravating factor that courts consider in determining whether a defendant poses a danger to the community.

Farwell, who appeared in court in a tan prison uniform, has been in custody since he was arrested in August of 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Defense lawyer Joanne Daley argued that Farwell "has been a stellar inmate" in jail and is not a danger to the community or a flight risk. Prosecutors, however, say new data from Farwell's phone showed he searched for pornography involving teenage girls, and that makes him a threat…

"This defendant raped a child, murdered her when she became an adult, and obstructed justice over and over again," a prosecutor said Tuesday. "He did not end things with her. He ended her."

The judge is taking the bail issue under advisement.

The amended death certificate now lists the cause of death as asphyxia and the manner of death as "undetermined," a Massachusetts office of the chief medical examiner spokesperson said.

Better late than never.

Indeed. A pathologist hired by the family questioned the original finding of suicide in June 2024. By August 2024, the DOJ had hired their own pathologist to confirm that this wasn't a suicide and had arrested Matthew Farwell for murder. So, it's taken nearly two years for the state medical examiner to accept those findings.

Why the long delay? Just stubbornness and a refusal to admit they were wrong? Or were they still trying to protect a dirty cop? I suspect that with Morrissey's resignation as DA, they know that the political winds are shifting, so they'd better be on the right side of this case.
