"“There's a long history with he and the school, and some of that history is related to Sheri,” Lewis said.

"Davis had an unrelated criminal mischief charge pending. She is accused of using a knife to slash the tires of another woman's car in January 2009. She is scheduled to appear in court on that misdemeanor charge next week."

Wow.

If the kid was being rotten in regard to the mentally challenged girl who was dancing, I can see why that would make a teacher angry. It should, and there should be consequences for the child(ren) who is/was participating. But this is amazing. She went up to him like she was getting ready to film a kickboxing movie scene.

I looked up the school and found some parental ratings that were fairly negative.

I have never heard of Texas not requiring teachers to be certified. I think if you have a Bachelor's degree you can teach, but you have to go through a year or two of training to become fully certified or you will have to stop teaching. I would be interested to know this teacher's credentials.

ETA: Ugh.

"Teacher certification laws in Texas require candidates to have a bachelor's degree, complete an educator preparation program and pass certification exams. The qualifications are less stringent for charter school teachers, who are required by most schools to have a high school diploma and demonstrate competency in their subject."

For a public school you must be certified, but for a charter school you just need a high school diploma and ability to demonstrate proficiency in your subject (whatever that means) except for bilingual and special ed teachers. Ugh, I had no idea. I grew up and went to school in Texas but never attended a charter school.
