I am not sure why this idea keeps coming up TBF.

In the UK, police could not even question the accused re an alibi, without disclosing evidential foundation. We do this for good reasons i.e. we do not allow trial by ambush.

Only an idiot would respond with specifics to vague allegations being made by law enforcement in the media. Remember especially that the media allegations might not even be accurate or could be intentionally deceptive!

It should also be factored in that when people co-operate, by providing interviews which could be used against them at trial, it is generally subject to those protections.

The US is different of course. In such an interview, the investigators can simply lie to you. This just came up in the Morphew case where the FBI interrogator bluffed the accused into a damaging admission.

In other words don't do this.
