Authorities investigate human remains found in Ruidoso

Authorities in southern New Mexico are investigating human remains reportedly found in Ruidoso last Wednesday.

Lincoln County Sheriff's office posted a video-interview on Facebook on June 26, 2025. "On the 21st of June ... in the afternoon hours, some construction workers uncovered mummified human remains in the 26000 block of US 70, Ruidoso Downs," according to Sheriff Michael Wood. The unidentified remains were confirmed through dental records obtained by the Office of the Medical Investigator as belonging to 50-year-old Freddy Ray Baca from Ruidoso.
