This is really bizarre, and psychologically interesting. Park Dietz coined a new label, factitious victimization disorder here:

The post that started this thread is two years old.

This is one of the most fascinating cases I have ever read about.

I was watching the Discovery True Crime Health Exercise Lifestyles channel ( or whatever it's called ) the other morning at around 2:00 AM when this story about former Tennessee medical examiner O.C. Smith came on.

This guy apparently faked his own abduction. According to F.B.I profiler Park Dietz, Smith has something called, ""Factitious Victimization."

Anyway I googled this case and lo and behold there was a thread at WS that popped up.

You guys are always so on top of it.

Smith's trial ended in a hung jury and that's the last I heard of the case although the link in the first post is still good.

I just wanted to tell you that you all are so good at keeping up to date on crime. For me to google this story and have WS come up with a two year old post is pretty cool. Plus, this story is so bizarre and interesting I thought you sleuths might enjoy it.
