Circumstances of Disappearance

Mandy Schmidt is missing since Saturday, 11 April 1998, from Halle an der Saale, Germany.

That day Mandy left her home without telling her parents where she was going. That morning she met a female friend at around 14.00, on Merseburger Strasse, at the corner, the two girls took a tram and got off two stops later at Damaschkestrasse.

There Mandy got into the car (red Opel Kadett Kombi) of a male acquaintance. He later said he dropped her off at 14.15, near an Italian restaurant on Diesterwegstrasse. That was the last time she was seen. Police later found out that one day before she disappeared, Mandy was sexually abused by her brother-in-law (and it was not for the first time). Mandy's older sister, the accused's wife, was pregnant at the time of his crimes. However, the then 24-year-old bricklayer claimed to have nothing to do with the girl's disappearance. He was sentenced to three years in prison. But that's not all: in 2016, the police investigated Mandy's father. An acquaintance accused him of abusing a child entrusted to him. An accusation was made. However, the judge pointed out that this case had nothing to do with the disappearance of his missing daughter - there was simply no evidence. Mandy's father, however, admitted to have had sexually abused several children over a period of ten years. It is not known whether Mandy ever felt these cruelties. He was sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of 3,000 euros. Mandy is still missing today.

"Although the genetic structure of all the bodies discovered across the country has since been compared to the girl's DNA and searches carried out in various locations for clues, there have been no result. There were many elements contradicting this: for example, there was also a search for Mandy on a television program in September 1998. The police then received more than 30 reports. Viewers said they had seen the girl in Berlin, Bielefeld and Hamburg. However, no tangible results have been achieved. Even an entire garden area was searched with ground radar, but without obtaining new information. Following an anonymous tip, the Sandersdorfer Busch near Bitterfeld was searched by hundreds in February 2000. The tip said that the girl's body was supposed to be there. Nothing was found.

Other leads also turned out to be false. Sometimes it was thought that Mandy might have been forced into prostitution. Four years after Mandy's disappearance, photos appeared on the Internet. In fact, the girl in the photos looked a lot like Mandy, but according to the Federal Criminal Police investigation, she was definitely not Halle's girl.
Mandy Schmidt's family finally had their daughter pronounced dead. In September last year (2012), the Halle district court issued a corresponding declaration, which the public prosecutor's office also has in its files. But that's not the end of the matter. “The process does not stop, however. At some point, we always find a body,” explains prosecutor Wiechmann."

this is so upsetting
poor Mandy

Note that these men were only sentenced to 3 - 4 years in prison for their crimes.
It's very sad that this girl has never been found.

Also I don't understand why they didn't think there were enough evidences to link him to her disappearance.. I mean he was the last one to see her, she was in HIS car, and he admitted to have se**ally assaulted her more than once as she was just a kid....
I know it's all circumstancial but c'mon..
