BANGKOK -- A Thai man is recovering from a bloody encounter with a 3-metre python that slithered through the plumbing of his home and latched its jaws onto his penis as he was using a squat toilet.

Attaporn Boonmakchuay was smiling as Thai television stations interviewed him in his hospital bed about the intimate intrusion, and doctors said he would recover. But photos of his blood-splattered bathroom in Chachoengsao province, east of Bangkok, were testimony to his ordeal.

Despite the bathroom resembling a murder scene, the victim only suffered a 3cm wound and is expected to fully recover.

“I think he’s lucky. We have to watch for infection. If there’s none and if the wound is healing well he should be able to go home. But if the bite had gone in the urinary tract it would have been a big problem,” Dr Chutima Pinchareon said.

Meanwhile, the snake has been released back into the wild after it was freed from the toilet bowl.

Video of construction workers dragging the creature from the plumbing show the snake was fully grown, measuring more than 3 meters.

He is a very lucky man. I hope he continues to recover and doesn't develop an infection. The teeth of the snake are very toxic.

I have always had a fear of sitting on the toilet and then a snake being there without me noticing them but I have such a terrible phobia about snakes anyway. I don't think I have ever heard of them getting into the toilet through a septic tank system which we have. It is usually happens when the water/pipes are connected to the city or the county septic system.

I sure wouldn't want my hiney bitten ( :D ) so I feel sorry for this poor man. That had to be terrifying. I have seen photos of the long teeth these pythons have and they are rather long and sharp.

I am impressed that you have thought of the possibilities. I am looking before I go from now on because i live in a city and have sewers rather than septic.

I don't blame you one bit. Its articles like this that terrifies me. I started not to even click on the thread since it had the word 'python' in the thread title. :)

True story: Family trip to Disney shortly after a hurricane (cannot remember which one- about 12 years ago). Flight delays and by the time we got to our cabin at the Disney campground- Mom (me) has really, REALLY got to pee. I announce to the crew "Get out of my way when we get to the cabin!" Unlock cabin, sprint down the hall, open toilet lid and there sits the biggest frog I have ever seen in my Life! I scream, slam the lid down and exit the bathroom. My son Ben says "I'll take care of it mom" and I go walk around outdoors in a desperate attempt to keep from wetting myself. Ben sticks his head out the door and says "It's ok, he's gone". I return to the cabin, assuming Ben has dropped the frog out the bathroom window. Juuuuust as I'm about to sit down on the toilet, Ben says through the door "It took about five flushes, but he stayed gone after the last one!"

I spent the rest of the trip convinced that frog was going to make a reappearance!

I had a child in my class that made the news in Tampa when she did her business on a python in the toilet. WHile working as a nanny in S.Fla. near a canal, I heard a splashing sound coming from the toilet while the lid was down. I knew what it was but not sure of the size so did not want to flush for fear of flood, the father was a plumber. They had a german shepard
who was right with me and waiting so I looked at him and said ok go! And opened the lid and as soon as I did a good size rat jumped out but that dog was so fast to grab him out of the air and gave one little puncture and a squeak and dropped him out of his mouth onto the floor and sat there. What a good dog he knew just what to do and did not try to eat it or make it gruesome. I felt kind of bad about the rat but they can spread disease and there was a child in the house.
Can you imagine the days of outhouses?

I am terrified of snakes this is my worst nightmare. I don't know how people who live in countries where there is always a danger of this happening are able to use the toilets. This poor man. The recent story about the house infested with pythons and them falling through the ceiling of a house a family had just bought kept me awake at night.
