Martin Ste-Croix a été vu pour la dernière fois le 11 août 2016, jour de son anniversaire, alors qu'il quittait le domicile familial. Il voulait trouver du travail dans l'Ouest canadien, plus précisement à Kelowna, en Colombie-Britanique. Il est parti sans son passeport, peu d'argent et peu de vêtements.
