Mary Kate Olsen Hospitalized

Just a couple quick thoughts:

- I HATE the pursed fish lip nonsense like you would not believe. That said, I am guessing they don't like their teeth and that is why they continue to pose like that. Vanessa Hudgeons from High School Musical and Assleigh Simpson are also guilty of this. Mary Kate supposedly smokes a pack or more of Marlboro Reds a day!

- I find them a bit creepy too sometimes, due to their vacant stares and odd habit of dressing like homeless grannies.

- I think Mary Kate has a serious problem with anorexia. People should try to be more understanding that this is a DISEASE and not something that can be cured by eating a cheeseburger. Those comments sound so callous. We jump all over people who criticize those battling obesity, so why is it okay to do that to someone who is under nourished?

- Lastly, I grew more found of Mary Kate after watching her on Weeds.

Random trivia for the day: If anyone is a fan of MTV's The Hills, did you know that Heidi's douchebag fiance Spencer made $75K in high school by taking a picture of a wasted and underage Mary Kate at a party and then selling it to the tabloids?

Adding on to what MJ says about Mary Kate's anorexia, in the pic dingo posted, take a look at her shoulder. It's basically a pointy bone.

And whoever posted they look like Bratz dolls, you are right! That's an excellent comparison. Large eyes, large heads, tiny bodies.

I used to get them all the time when I was her age. What I do remember is my Dr. called it the honeymooners disease..LOL but I did not have anexoria

I thought they were not so cute babies, but as teenage girls they were cute. it seemed like once they hit 18 they went down hill. They are such beautiful girls who so obviously have an eating disorder. They look so old and haggard sometimes.I do feel for them, they are so painfully thin.

It's that anorexic Hollywood look that always makes me think of LOLLIPOPs. Enormous head - stick body. Christina Ricci and Mena Suvari had it going on for while too.

I don't get it. I love the curves of women...don't know why an adult woman would want to look like an adolescent boy.

Compared to other Hollywood parents who spent all their children's money, yes, they were decent parents. The Olsen twins ended up with a billion dollar enterprise and the ability to hang on to it, so that's not all bad. As for divorcing and having another child very quickly, that seems to happen to "regular" people as well.

Compared to Lindsey Lohan's father or Macaulay Cullkin, they seem to be fairly good overall.

So I'll rephrase that, compared to most Hollywood parents, the Olsen twins seemed to get a better deal.

I have heard and read from what I consider to be reliable sources that MJ went to treatment for cocaine addiction and not anorexia (cocaine addiction tends to lead to not eating and weight loss and can certainly mimic anoerexia in that regard).

I believe that she had a drug problem primarily and perhaps an eating disoder as a secondary symptom. If you check out the website for the treatment center she attended in Utah (Cirque Lodge, I believe, but it could be somewhere else), they don't mention one word about having any sort of treatment programs for eating disorder - they are strictly a high-end, well-regarded drug rehab center.

I think the Olsens had good parents - they've turned out remarkably well (behaviorwise) for two very young adults who wound up amassing a $1 billion dollar empire.

I just think they're too skinny! But they are also very petite, so maybe that lends to it.

ETA: I don't automatically think parents who support children who want to be young entertainers are, by default, bad parents.

hehe. it's all yours. i have to admit though. i notice i tend to do it to a small degree myself. it kind of juts my lips out making them look pouty and fuller. i think that's the look the girls are going for, but their lips are terribly thin.

FWIW, sometimes it is the other way around. People with anorexia and other eating disorders choose cocaine and speed because they lend themselves very nicely to not eating and make it easier to keep their weight down. I have no idea if any of this is the case here, but eating disorders do indeed lead to drug abuse.

That's a really great point, JBean. I know a lot of female recovering addicts who also have eating disorders - in fact, I can say that most of the female recovering addicts I know have eating disorders - and used drugs to help them stay skinny. Ugh! The two definitely can go hand in hand.
