Video depicting Baltimore County officer stopping shopper goes viral

[BPD spokesperson] Vinson said that Persuhn happened to be at the Timonium Kohl’s June 7 when he recognized Holt. Persuhn asked for Holt’s identification to find out if there was still a warrant out for his arrest.

So basic story sounds like dude was accused of and eventually (but not immediately sounds like) charged for allegedly shoplifting from a JC Penney a couple months ago. At one point there was some sort of warrant out for him. So the other day, he's shopping at Kohl's with his fiancee, and the officer who had responded to the call from the JC Penney incident sees him, and wonders if he's still got an active warrant. So he asks the guy for his ID and the guy is like wth are you bugging me for I'm just trying to shop.

What are your thoughts? I'm thinking if he knew it was the guy, then couldn't he have called in and found out if he had an active warrant without even having to talk to the guy? If he remembered him well enough to wonder about a warrant then one would imagine perhaps he would remember enough detail like a name or date or the location and call it in? If he didn't recognize him well enough to determine whether or not it was the same guy and wanted his ID for that, then, well, he didn't really recognize him, did he?

Are we as citizens obligated to provide ID when asked? When driving, sure, but just walking around? I don't know. IMO, the officer was a bit too aggressive and rude as he got up in the guy's face. The guy didn't handle it well, either, but he wasn't out of line, I don't think...I think he was worked up because he kept asking for officer's badge number and I was like 4742 dude he said it like three times already!

What I find interesting is the officer saying (paraphrasing) 'stop talking loudly' to the person he stopped. The person he stopped isn't talking loudly. Then the officer steps forward and is in the face of this person - then the person he stopped gets a little loud, but not very loud.

The officer escalated the situation and imo, knew he would escalate the situation.

Possibly doing his job in some way but definitely looking for trouble while he's at it. Jmo.

The cop was so unprofessional and needs anger management training as well as a 'refresher' in deescalation. When asked for his badge number, the cop should have written it down on paper, preferably a LE business card with his name, and then handed the information respectfully to the victim of police harassment.

Interesting timing when his wife stopped filming or it was edited out.
I think the officer was doing his job if he suspects someone has a warrant.

Holt kept asking for the officers badge number and the officer kept repeating it. It was almost as if he didn't really want to know.

I am also curious about how exactly this encounter completed, and wonder about the timing of the end of the video.
