''At 2 a.m. on May 15, 1983, Catherine Marie Britt and her male acquaintance were parked on Poplar Hill Road near Merrymans Mill Road in the Loch Raven Reservoir watershed area. An unknown male suspect fired several shots through one of the vehicle's windows, striking both Catherine and the male acquaintance. Catherine and the male acquaintance were both transported to local hospitals where Catherine was ultimately pronounced deceased. The male acquaintance was critically injured but survived the shooting.

A similar incident occurred on April 16, 1983, also in the Loch Raven Reservoir watershed area. A male and female were also seated in a vehicle when an unknown suspect opened a door and began shooting. Both the male and female survived in this incident. ''

BALTIMORE COUNTY — May 15 marked 42 years since Catherine Marie Britt was shot at a "lovers' lane" in Baltimore County in 1983.

Britt, a 22-year-old Eastern Shore native, was in a parked car with her boyfriend at a secluded spot near the Loch Raven Reservoir on Poplar Hill Road when they were ambushed.

"It was around 2:00 in the morning, it was a rainy night, there was very low visibility," explained Corporal Dona Carter with the Baltimore County Police Homicide and Missing Persons Unit.

"The man came out of nowhere, he didn't say anything and he just started shooting into the car."

Despite extensive police work over the decades, her killer has never been brought to justice. Baltimore County Police are determined to change that.

Bullets and possibly fired shell casings would have been recovered and taken into evidence in these attacks. Perhaps ballistic comparisons could be done today using new methods in an attempt to link the two incidents with others.

In 1983 a gunman police referred to as the 'Forest Phantom' attacked couples on two nights on a remote road near Loch Raven Reservoir. One of the victims, Catherine Britt, died from her wounds. Police have never found the suspect.
