Prince George’s 8th-grader shot while raking leaves outside his home has died

A 13-year-old who was shot on Tuesday outside his home as he raked leaves has died, his mother said. Jayz Agnew, 13, died in a hospital Friday evening, Juanita Agnew said. He had been fighting for his life since he was shot through the head as he was doing chores in front of his house in Prince George’s County.

We are heartbroken to hear that on November 11th 13-year-old Jayz Agnew was pronounced clinically dead after clinging to life in the hospital since Tuesday. This bright, young man was shot and murdered while raking leaves in his family’s front yard in Hillcrest Heights. We send our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends during this very unfortunate and difficult time.

As police continue to investigate to identify a suspect or suspects, let me say, that the violence must stop. Too many beautiful lives have been taken away from families and our communities. Those who have been senselessly killed are not simply numbers, they are sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, friends, mentors and caretakers, all who are valuable to our communities.

Neighbors described hearing between five and seven gunshots. One nearby resident added that he saw a car speed away from the scene. Prince George's County police do not believe that Agnew was an intended target. Officers have not made an arrest, and detectives have not released a suspect description. They are offering a cash reward for any information leading to an arrest.

The pics of Jayz in the article above certainly make him look like a 13 year old. Was it mistaken identity of another 13 or 14 year old perhaps? The wrong address?
He was raking leaves in his family's front yard -- just being a good kid, helping his folks, minding his own business, IMO.

The news report said there were between 5 & 7 gunshots. Someone wanted to be sure the person was mortally injured. He was 13 year old young boy.

His 6 year old sister is old enuff to remember this for the rest of her life -- and, according to his mom, Jayz and his little sister were very close. And now he is gone. The world will never know or appreciate what good things Jayz may have done if he had had the chance. Prayers for his mom, his cute little sister and the others who loved him and will miss him for the rest of their days.
I have tears and anger -- at the same time.
