There is absolutely nothing else about him. No photo, no articles, nothing. I would think a missing blind man would have raised more media interest.

Bumping for John...it's now been over 55 years.

The details of his disability may be wrong, although whether this has any bearing on the case is an open question.

On Ancestry there is his WW2 Hospital Admission record. It states that the cause of his admission was disease not injury (uveitis - inflammation of the eye) with a resultant cataract and the final result was total blindness in one eye. I do not know whether he had any subsequent problems in his other eye, but it opens the possibility that he retained sight in one eye. People with only one working eye can lead normal lives (there have been at least two professional cricketers facing 90mph bowling with only one eye due to accidents).

I assume there was a declaration of death as Ancestry has a clipping from theKennebec Journal listing a grant of probate, dated Dec 4 1972, for "John A Malloch, late of Waterville, deceased". I am also fairly sure that he may be listed in some records/references as John W Malloch. Ancestry has various trees and records and he is often listed as John Wellington Malloch in trees. His birth record shows the John Alden Malloch listed here, but his fathers name was John Wellington Malloch and all his 3 brothers had Wellington as an additional middle name - so I suspect John also used this additional name.

My mother lost the sight in one eye due to an untreated medical condition. She had also had cataract surgery in her good eye in the days before implants, she wore the thick glasses. She gave up driving, told me she could drive if she had to, but preferred not to take the risk. She sewed, did crafts, was an avid reader all with no aids other than glasses. She was legally blind in the bad eye.

I wish we had more information on his disappearance. Was he suicidal? Was he disoriented?
This is a bit out there but is it possible someone accidentally hit him with their car and hid his body to avoid criminal charges?
