Kristin Westra, 47, was last seen Sunday night at her family home on Lufkin Road. No known vehicle was involved, and it's unknown why Westra would be missing. Westra is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

According to the linked news article, the last person to see her was her husband. She left her car in the driveway. Her FB is upbeat but she has not posted in 2 years. No arrests on record. A large-scale search began Monday night in the Lufkin Road area, which is crossed by a power line corridor and surrounded by woodlands.

The search had covered more than 20 miles as of late Tuesday morning.

It was not clear Tuesday morning whether investigators had any specific information that led to the search area, or any other clues about where Westra might be.

How is it "unknown if Westra has a vehicle?"

I can understand not being sure about a friend possibly picking her up, her maybe taking a taxi or an Uber/Lyft, but I would think knowing if one of the family vehicles is missing would be very easy.

A neighbor's surveillance footage captured Westra returning to her home following a jog around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Westra has been under "some stress" over work and home renovations and added that she has recently had "some problems" sleeping and eating as well.

Westra had a full dinner on Sunday night but was having trouble falling asleep. Her husband believes that she got up around 3 a.m. to try sleeping in an empty room, but when he woke up, he "realized she wasn't there."

When Westra's husband attempted to call her cell phone, it rang inside the house. She did not have her keys or wallet and does not do drugs or alcohol or take any sleep medications.

Westra is an elementary school teacher.

BBM. All I can say to that statement is "yeah, right" (insert rolling eyes emoji).

Also, I assume that the neighbour's CCTV will be thoroughly examined from 6pm on Sunday. If there's no movement from Kristin's house then the property needs searching.

ETA: Not a good sign that it's her brother who's talking to the media, not the husband.

The search “is tentative at this point based on the information that has come into us,” Holmquist said during a telephone interview Tuesday night from the fire station on Walnut Hill Road. “The weather has been difficult to deal with and it is part of the equation, for sure.”

Holmquist declined to elaborate on why the search might not continue Wednesday other than to say that teams have scoured “a very large coverage area.” He said it is “too soon” to say that Westra’s disappearance is suspicious.

Mystery deepens over missing elementary school teacher - Lewiston Sun Journal

My initial thought was that something suspicious had happened, but the latest update makes me wonder if they are thinking she left willingly/on her own accord. I would think the neighbors surveillance footage would reflect that though.

I'd be interested to know what movement, of anyone/any thing (if any) occurred at the house between her arriving back from her jog at 6pm and her husband leaving the house to report her missing in person at 9am.

This update states LE has stopped their search based on "information found in the investigation". It also states she left without keys or vehicle, possibly wearing flip flops (it was a cold rainy night). With the stress of a major home remodel as well as a remodel at her school (which she has to commute to by ferry since they live on the mainland) I'm afraid she had a mental break due to the stress and lack of sleep. Hopefully the neighbor's video will reveal when and how she left the home. Kristin Westra: Mysterious Disappearance of Maine Teacher Worries Family

That comment above was made by her brother from the article:

“It was raining and she left without her keys, without her car, without her phone. And we think she was wearing flip-flops,” Rohrbach told the paper. “She does a lot of yoga and she does a lot of running, but she doesn’t do it at that time of night. And if she did, the Kristin I know would have told Jay or brought her phone.”

So the brother is making these statements to the paper. He is assuming that she might have left wearing her flip flops on a cold and rainy night.

This is really strange. They don't believe she's in the woods near her home. From the article posted above, they have used drones and dogs and have searchers that looked in the woods and are now looking in the quarry near her home. Where could she have gone on a cold and rainy night, especially in flip flops? I live two hours away on a dirt road myself nestled in the woods, and I can tell you for sure, that on a cold and rainy night up here, you would have a tough time navigating in flip flops- it has been cold up here- add the cold from the rain, and she would be freezing within minutes! How they haven't found her by now is a mystery to me, as the rain has been steadily coming down the last few nights and it is so damp and cold- she would be ill from walking through in such weather.

I don't know what to think at this point. Even if she was mentally not in a good place, they should have found her by now, shivering from the cold. I've spent a good portion of my life in Maine in all seasons, and I just can't imagine her not being found close to home if what the police suspect is true, given the weather the last few nights, especially the night she disappeared.

I just looked at her school biography posted by @GraceG second post of this thread. She looked like a woman that loved life, adventure, and learning new things. Very ambitious. She sounds like a wonderful lady. Kristin, I hope you are ok and are found safe and sound soon.
