Alas-Paul Rubin of the Phoenix Times is refusing to remove Tawni's morgue photo from the story he recently completed regarding her case. He has been approached by a mod of WS as well as Tawni's mother. I just received an email from Suzi Dodt requesting that we apply a little pressure-she cannot be associated with the pressure because he has other pieces he is doing for her. Let me get you-all the link:

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2008...return-the-nameless-dead-to-their-loved-ones/

He has a hat here on WS-I pm'd him requesting he take the photo down. Letters to the editor anyone???

I will let you know what he says.

Uhh.. something like this?

It has been requested by members at Websleuth's and Tawni Lee Mazzone's family (AKA "Maricopa Jane Doe")
that the morgue photo of case #99-0305 come down from your Phoenix Times
"Suzi Dodt’s on a mission to return the nameless dead to their loved ones" article. It is painful for the family to see this as they only want to remember her in life, and I personally feel that it is inappropriate to keep someone's deceased photo up, especially if they have been identified by their loved ones. There is absolutely no need for it and it's becoming very personal. Please take this into consideration, for the family's sake and out of respect of Tawni, so she may now rest in peace. I understand that the article's purpose is to put her face out there and use her story as an example, but there are many other John and Jane Does who could use the publicity now.

Thank you,
VASHLEY88

If I should add/remove anything--let me know. Wrote this relatively quickly..

Suzi's name can't be mentioned in the request to remove it because he is working on other cases for her Read Believe's post again lol.

Sorry guys - I have no problem with Rubin refusing to take down Tawni's pic. I have no interest in squashing freedom of speech. If the family doesn't want to see her morgue photos, they don't have to look. Let's not forget that those photos are what ID'd Tawni in the end!

That's okay! I don't have much of a problem with him keeping it either, but believe09 has done so much, and well as Suzi and I wanted to alleviate at least a little bit of the pressure. No hard feelings if he sends me a nasty letter back, though.

My words are sincere in regards to Tawni, though of course.

Praise the work - what he tried to do was good in getting the info out there, but now that you have appealed to his "soft" side by including the sensitivity of family and their feelings of seeing those photos maybe you could suggest subtly that he cover each picture with a "solved" banner, which could further his own purpose while accomplishing what we all want.

WOW! That was a great story they did! Way to go Christine! Her brother seems very kind.

Yes it was, and yes he did.

They did announce LDJ as another prostitute, and that WW is facing up to 4 years in prison for violating is probation. No other charges were mentioned. Tawni's brother said that he will be at the upcoming hearing.

The one thing that bugged me about her brother was that he was saying how it was plaguing him (not a direct quote), but yet he waited 9 years to even begin a search for her? It's been stated she was somewhat of a habitual runaway, but the day her time away turns longer than usual is when I'd have started looking.

I don't really understand that either (about him waiting so long to search for her) Maybe he did look for her years ago and then gave up. Who knows?

Some people do not know how or what to do to search for some one. I have that all of the time with other search cases I do. Mike may have mentioned it to someone who knew what to do and they told him who to call. Not everybody has a computer or knows how to use one.

Don't be hard on yourself! I have an acquaintance with Paul, and I wasn't very nice, lol... I get the freedom of speech aspect etc, however I think the continued posting of a picture of her dead body is salacious. JMO.

Here is what Paul sent me:

Hi Believe---I got your E-mail.
Please feel free to contact my boss, Rick Barrs (he's the editor) at
[email protected] with your concerns about the photo of Tawni. His
boss (the co-owner of the paper, Mike Lacey) is
[email protected]

Thanks for the work you do!

I don't think that you were cold and my first instinct is to write a nasty letter to the man myself. the article was good. However those pictures are public and have been for quite some time. freedom of speech and all of that. so he has that right to post pics. I would like to offer him some family pics even baby pics. and suggest that he put a "solved" banner over the morgue photos.:blowkiss:

Maybe baby and childhood pics could have enhanced HIS story line like how did this beuatiful baby girl become a jane doe for nearly 10 years...... gotta work ttyl

Hi Vashley. OK so where are you now on this letter? I am eagerly waiting to see what you have come up with, and have a little faith in yourself. I know whatever you come up with is going to be great.
