Meteor Shower and Total Lunar Eclipse to Wow Skywatchers This Month

Okay um, not a practicing witch anymore but consider myself pagan still. I have not heard of any special significance of a Blood Moon or Blood on the Moon in witchcraft. Blood OF the moon refers to a woman's menstrual cycle, which has long been associated with the moon historically. Probably because it comes once a month like the cycle of the moon.

Sorry no creepy stories of Blood on the Moon to relay. Hey, wasn't there an old timey western with that name?
In the movie "Practical Magic", which they've been showing again recently, the sisters were worried about "Blood on the Moon", which was a bad sign.

There is a lot of mythology around blood on the moon but I have never thought of it as witch specific. Sort of like Friday the 13th is supposed to be a badluck day. It is just what folk used to say when the moon looked red, it must be a bad portend. But in actuality it is pretty common to see a red moon at the time of an eclipse. Also I think red moons are sometimes seen around harvest time which probably scared the carp out of peasants back in the day.

Otto, those are amazing! Gorgeous photos.

Just using my nikon d70 and shot at 200mm. I had to work a while to adjust the settings, and I didn't use a tripod so the last shot especially was shaky...I tried to brace myself against the balcony railing to steady myself. ;)

can't wait to see more shots

Here's some pics I took last night

Thanks. I use the Canon 30D with the 70-200 2.8L ... always interested in what other people are using. I too was messing with the settings while shooting the moon. I was up most of the night so I'm just wiped today, but I will go throuh the photos in the next few day and pull out some good ones.

Wonderful images!!!!!!!! TFS.

Many areas had lousy conditions for viewing last night, but here, it could not have been a clearer, more magnificient evening. I made a few shots but haven't had time to download. I am not expecting to have anything worthwhile because I had broken the head on my heavy-duty tripod & didn't plan a set-up before the event. babycat, you have a steady hand! Can you post the full EXIF? You too Otto, please? I love your man in the moon. Can't wait to see elphaba's.

I'll try to be better prepared Dec 21, 2094!
