Circumstances of Disappearance:
Chmielowski was last seen by his sister around 3 p.m. at Jelitkowo beach in in Gdańsk, Poland, on July 11, 1951. He told his sister he was going kayaking with a woman he had just met but never returned. Later that day, a man claiming to be the fiancé of the unknown woman had come forward with Chmielowski's clothes, claiming both he and the woman had drowned. The drowning site was combed by divers but Chmielowski was never located.
