Ron Scheepstra, age 49, a resident of Lufkin, TX went missing during a vacation fly fishing trip in Xcalak Mexico. Xcalak is in the deep southern part of the Yucatan Peninsula, near Belize. He was fishing with 3 friends on Saturday, April 11, 2009 when he left them to go fishing in a different place, a bit farther away. He has never been seen since. Despite large search efforts by the Mexican officials and government, along with local residents, no sign of Ron has been found. No shoes, fishing gear, water bottle, nothing.

It sure does not appear that the local Mexican officials are looking for him anymore, per his wife.
The article said more than 40 people missing in Mexico.

2nd search uncovers no details in missing man case

A second search effort in Mexico has turned up no leads in the case of a missing Lufkin man.
The U.S. Consulate contacted his wife Cindy on Wednesday, telling her a renewed search has uncovered no leads.

Search dogs did not find any sign of Ronald Scheepstra, and there have been no new developments in the case, according to information from the Mexican government.

The U.S. government is continuing to follow up on the search efforts, according to an e-mail from the consulate.

The Scheepstra family is hoping his case will be designated a criminal matter, allowing the FBI to go into Mexico to begin its own investigation.
