"Deputy prosecutor Jason DeSantis said Megan Imirowicz was upset with her father because he was drunk and unable to drive her to a hair salon appointment before a planned 18th birthday party.

"During his hospitalization, both of Konrad Imirowicz's legs were amputated, he suffered several infections and received a tracheotomy, skin grafts and kidney dialysis."

Thank you, @Ozoner for opening a thread on this case. At times I would notice this case on Court tv (twitter) but skipped over it, and didn't know the logistics of the case. How horrible and unbelievable if it were not true. moo

A jury found a Groveland Township woman guilty of killing her father after she threw lye on him, according to Oakland County prosecutors.

In October 2021, Megan Imirowicz, 18, threw lye, a chemical drain cleaner, on her sleeping father, according to prosecutors. Konrad Imirowicz, 64, was hospitalized for chemical burns across his body and survived for five months, but ultimately died in March 2022 after being removed from life support.

Prosecutors said he died from chemical burns and complications from when the chemical was thrown at him.

Imirowicz was convicted of unlawful possession or use of harmful devices/irritants causing death and domestic violence. She faces up in life in prison at her sentencing, which is scheduled for July 25.

“This is a tragic case. The defendant lashed out in anger and wound up killing her father,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “I commend the prosecution team for the tremendous work that went into the prosecution and securing justice for the victim in this case.”

The 12-person jury heard testimonies from nine witnesses and reviewed 18 exhibits during the four day trial, the prosecutor’s office said, adding the jury then convicted Megan on charges of unlawful possession or use of harmful devices/irritants causing death and domestic violence.

After finding Megan guilty, the jury moved to revoke bond, which the court granted, the prosecutor’s office said, saying she will remain at the Oakland County Jail.

Unlawful possession or use of harmful devices/irritants causing death is a felony punishable by life imprisonment or any term of years and/or a fine up to $40,000. Domestic violence is a misdemeanor which is punishable by 93 days jail and/or a fine up to $500.

DAY 1 – 6/12/23

Facing a maximum of life in prison for fatally dousing lye on her sleeping father, a Michigan woman sobbed, quoted the Bible and maintained her innocence. Megan Joyce Imirowicz, 19, got a year in prison with credit for time served, and she must serve five years of probation.

She appeared distraught at her sentencing hearing, as she did at her trial. The defendant emphatically denied that she took the life of Konrad Imirowicz, 64.

WOW. 1 year and 5 years probation with credit given for 17 months served while awaiting trial, for patricide in a most heinous manner, and whose victim who then suffered immensely for 6 months until his death.

This judge got it so so wrong.
---------------------------------------
“This is a serious crime that you have been found guilty of. The court does not believe that a child your age knew or understood the consequences of throwing the items at your father or the damage it would cause him,” Judge Valentine said.

The prosecutor, Jason DeSantis, immediately objected, saying the sentence was not proportional or reasonable to the crime the defendant was convicted of. “A person died…horribly.” DeSantis also requested a GPS tether for the duration of her probation, which the judge denied.

Prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence Imirowicz to 7 years. Michigan sentencing guidelines set the sentence between 51 and 85 months, according to the prosecutor.

Judge Valentine noted the objections, but held fast, though she did agree to a mental health assessment and a review in six months.

“I expect you to do good things Ms. Imirowicz…carry on your father’s name,” Judge Valentine concluded.

What the actual . . . ?? She was 18 years old, not a "child"

OMG, this literally makes me sick to my stomach. I wonder if there is any other recourse for the prosecutor, but likely not.
Unbelievable.

No one deserves to die like this, no one.

She should have a sentence commiserate with what she was found guilty of IMO.

I agree.

IMO, it does not appear that she has accepted any responsibility for her father’s death. This is very troubling. It sounds like she has more remorse about being held accountable for her actions, than for her father’s suffering and death.

“The defendant emphatically denied that she took the life of Konrad Imirowicz, 64.

But prosecutors in the trial painted her as callous. They said she lied to investigators about how she learned about her father’s burns. In truth, when a friend called her about it, she scoffed and hung up the phone, the state said.”

This is my own personal opinion.
I think the judge made a good call.
Until we walk in her shoes.
Until we walk in her skin, we cannot understand why she did what she did.
I feel for her.
I agree. <modsnip: not victim friendly>
