So tragic that it took nearly 40 years to identify him when he died only days after running away. Had he not died like that in another state he may have gone back home. It really makes me wonder how many other missing "run aways" died soon after running away but are simply unidentified because they are not in any national database like NAMUS where they could be matched up. So sad.

Rest in Peace Drew.

I came across this blonde guy missing from Michigan from 1979 what I found interesting was that there were rumors that he was buried by a barn

Details of Disappearance
Andrew Jackson Greer was last seen on February 12, 1979 in Addison, MI. Greer was suspended from school for allegedly bringing a pocket knife to school and never returned home. He was a student at Addison High School at the time and lived with his family on Burton Road. Greer went with a friend to spend time at a clubhouse on the friend's family’s property south of Addison. Eventually, they parted ways.

Greer was reported missing by his mother at 5:10 p.m. that day.

Rumors circulated the school campus and beyond that Greer was allegedly killed and buried near a barn, or he was last seen hitchhiking along U.S. 127 near Hudson. No solid evidence to support either scenario came to light. The investigation resulted in no leads as to Greer’s whereabouts.

Greer had neither a driver’s license nor a Social Security number at the time he disappeared.

The boy you speak about 1979, was found in a shallow grave and identified through DNA. Michigan State Police confirmed on Tuesday that the body of a "John Doe," who was buried in a pauper's grave in Macon, Georgia, has been identified as missing 15-year-old Andrew Jackson Greer from Addison, Michigan. "BODY ID'd"

Ummmmm yes that’s what I posted the link about?

It’s was nice to have him back for the family. We live in a very rural area among the cornfields, crops, farms & woods. It was our only missing person case for over 30 yrs.

Andrew Jackson Greer, Jr.

MACON, Ga. — Forensic experts on Tuesday identified a body buried in Georgia for nearly 40 years as a 15-year-old Michigan boy who was reported missing in 1979.

Andrew Jackson Greer Jr., of Clayton, vanished Feb. 12, 1979, after leaving Addison High School and failing to return home. Michigan State Police officials said in a news release that the cold case was reopened in 2014 with the help of new technology and resources.

"A forensic analyst from the Center for Human Identification at the University of North Texas today confirmed that DNA from a 'John Doe,' who was buried in a pauper's grave in Macon, Ga., in 1979, matches Greer's DNA," officials said in the release.

Although Andrew's body was finally identified, his murder remains unsolved.

Murder? I've been seeing in articles where he was struck and killed by a vehicle. Did whoever struck him not stop?

I guess I may have misinterpreted something. Posts stated he disappeared from Michigan and ended up in a shallow grave in Georgia, and that the case was being "reopened".

Perhaps he was accidently killed by a truck while walking on the highway. I am sure LE will get it all sorted out.

Good that he was identified and his remains returned to his family.
