A number of archived articles out there, all of which indicate his last seen timeframe of late 1980, not July 1981, as indicated in Namus. In addition, his car was found at Bishop Airport with blood stains inside the vehicle. Foul play was suspected, with a 2nd degree murder conviction in 1993; the man found guilty was someone he knew from high school.
