Detroit Police Make Arrest In Attack On Nursing Home Patient Captured On Video

"Detroit police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection to an assault of a nursing home patient that was captured on video.

A lawyer for the Westwood Rehabilitation Nursing Center said the suspect in the May 15 attack on the 75-year-old man was a temporary resident there for rehabilitation and recovery, according to NBC affiliate WDIV.

The victim's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, officials said. The suspect's name was not released.

"What our investigation has revealed so far was the nursing home was unaware of an assault until they saw the video," Detroit police Chief James Craig said at a news conference Thursday.

Detroit police thanked the public for alerting it to the video.

"Thank you to everyone for your assistance in bringing the senior home incident to our attention," the department said on Twitter. "The @detroitpolice is investigating the situation, and an arrest has been made."

This man wasn't an employee, he was a resident.

Apparently the perpetrator filmed his crime, and uploaded it for other people to view. Someone notified the authorities.

Why do so many criminals film their crimes? This is not an isolated incident.

Do they want to watch the videos over again?
Do they think that showing the video to others makes them seem awesome?

Or do they just have no concept of their criminal behavior?

"The victim's injuries do not seem to be life threatening". So, that makes it okay to beat a 75 year old man, who isn't even defending himself?

Does it seem like the media is minimizing this attack?

That is an excellent observation. Yet, the crime didn't come to attention to authorities by the staff at the rehabilitation center.

It was a result of someone who viewed the video from the perpetrator.

Wow, thank you. All day, I had assumed he was an employee when I saw headlines. Still monstrous, but in a different way. I had no idea those patients would have access to each other. How on earth does the staff manage to be clueless? There had to be some noise, and that poor man was bloodied. The attacker needs to be put away for a good, long, time.

A second video has been found that shows the same assailant beating an elderly woman.

This is from the Daily Mail. I'm not going to hyperlink it. But you can go there if you want.

So this fiend was just making the rounds???? Filming himself like a terrorist video? I don't know the racial demographics of the nursing home - maybe he beat up whoever was around...or maybe this was a hate crime

How come staff didn't notice two residents with injuries. This facility should be looked into by authorities.
