Fred and Louise are suspected to have gone missing either the very late hours of 15 DEC 1980 or the very early hours of 16 DEC 1980. Their bodies were discovered at a Toledo landfill (dump) on 19 DEC 1980.

Just a week after they married and three days after they turned up missing in Flint, the Tuckers were discovered in the Toledo dump off a dead end street, asphyxiated with plastic dry cleaning bags from their own home.

The Tuckers' bodies were found under cardboard boxes in brush off Creekside, dumped before snow blanketed the area. They were gagged, their hands and feet were bound, and pillowcases and plastic bags were over their heads.

A check of the Tuckers' Flint home found forced entry to the back door and Mr. Tucker's car missing.

Sergeant Hosmer said there was evidence of a struggle at the home. A bed sheet and two pillowcases were missing from the bed. Strips of binding cord were found and things were overturned in the kitchen area. But nothing - not even Mr. Tucker's wallet - was taken.

How sad, they had only been married a week And I see that evidence was lost? Ugh!

On another note, I notice the writer of this article is Ron Fonger. I believe that he also did an article or two on Coral Pearl Hall (who also has a thread here at WS) I'm glad he seems to really try to revive interest in these cold cases.

State police investigators had hoped advances in DNA since 1980 might have made that evidence valuable in locating the Tuckers' killer.

FLINT, Michigan -- Thirty-one years after the bodies of Fred and Louise Tucker were found in an old landfill in Toledo, Ohio, police say there are no strong leads and few resources to revive a case that remains one of Flint's most mysterious unsolved murders.

Just a week after they married and three days after they turned up missing in Flint, the Tuckers were discovered in the Toledo dump off a dead end street, asphyxiated with plastic dry cleaning bags from their own home...

... The bodies were discovered Dec. 19, 1980, and police believe at least two men abducted the Tuckers late Dec. 15 or early Dec. 16 from their home on West Dartmouth Street.

Prosecutors, police and family members have speculated that the murders could have been caused by hired killers, political enemies or someone jilted in business dealings with Fred Tucker, a political heavyweight known to carry a gun in his waistband as he traveled around the city, dealing in real estate, construction and politics.

"It's just a big question mark still," said May Tate, 65, a niece of Fred Tucker, who still lives in Flint. "By now, you feel like something would have surfaced."

Flint Police Detective Greg Hosmer said he remains ready to pursue new leads in the case but said those have been few and far between in recent years.

The city's cold case efforts have also been slowed by the loss of Michigan State Police investigators who at one time were assigned to help close some of the city's unsolved murders, some of which dated back decades.

“There’s been some nibbles” in the decades since the murders, Hosmer said, but no breakthroughs.

In 2005, The Flint Journal reported that reopening the Tucker case had been complicated by missing evidence, including a bathrobe, nightgown and semen taken from Louise Tucker after she was found dead in Toledo...

Police have operated under the assumption that Louise Tucker might have been sexually assaulted before Fred Tucker returned to his home, before he was ambushed and the two were taken to Toledo.

"That should never have been lost," Tate said. "They let (the case) slide away."

Hosmer said police have tried to spark new interest and bring attention to the unsolved murders several times in the past and said anyone with information about it can still contact him at 810-237-6945.

Tate said she wants Flint to remember her uncle, who was considering a run for mayor in 1983 and was a champion of everyday people.

In addition to his City Council service, Fred Tucker was a UAW committee man at Buick and was involved in real estate, construction, insurance businesses. He was also involved and management of Flint General Hospital before it changed its name in 1982 and closed one year later.

"He was a man that cared about the people -- each individual," Tate said. "Many people had a lot of respect for him."

Tate said she has no personal theory about what happened to the Tuckers, calling it a legitimate mystery.

"It's something you think happens to others but your own relative," she said...
