PALMER, Mich. (WLUC) - A 65-year-old woman with cognitive issues is missing from an assisted living facility in Marquette County.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post are asking for assistance with finding a 65 year-old woman from the Palmer area who is missing.

The MSP says Helen Elizabeth Kontio is 5′4″ and 195 pounds. She was last seen wearing a blue and gold shirt, blue jean capri pants, white tennis shoes, and a dark blue jacket.

Kontio is a resident of the Marigold Assisted Living Facility in Palmer and was last seen outside the facility at approximately 1:00 p.m. Monday.

Kontio suffers from cognitive/psychological issues and is believed to still be in Marquette County.

While our news crew was in Palmer, neighbors tell us most of the 200 plus people who call Palmer home were out Monday night looking for Kontio and plan to do the same thing on Tuesday night.

Neighbors in Palmer also tell us Kontio has lived in the same place for about 40 years and is a fixture in the community.

We spoke with Michigan State Police on Thursday morning. There have been no new sightings of Helen Kontio and no new details to share about her disappearance or location.

Around 3:45 Monday morning Kontio was found walking on Snyder Street in Palmer. Investigation revealed she had been at another residence.

PALMER, Mich. (WLUC) - Exactly one year later, the search continues for a Palmer woman who went missing from a group home.

Last year, on the evening of May 9, 65-year-old Helen Kontio was reported missing by Marigold Adult Foster Care Owner and Operator Kathleen Conklin. Kontio has cognitive impairments that made her mostly non-verbal.

“I think the closure would give us peace because not knowing where she is, what happened to her, does someone have her, did someone hurt her,” Kontio said. “I think that is what keeps you up at night and gives you the nightmares.”
