The unidentified remains of two people were found by authorities in a freezer at a residence in the 1500 block of Wintercrest Street in East Lansing, Mich., at around 12:08 p.m. on Nov. 7, the East Lansing Police Department stated in a release.

(CBS DETROIT) — East Lansing police say a "person of interest" in a double homicide where two sets of human remains were found in the freezer of an East Lansing townhome.

On Tuesday, police confirmed they had identified a person of interest. That individual was later found dead.

According to the warrants, in the apartment, police found hard drives and cell phones belonging to Jason Weerawat. The documents say the items were found in what is believed to be Weerawat's bedroom inside the apartment.


The warrant says Weerawat died by suicide in Detroit in July of this year.

They were not noticed to be missing from July to November 7th. That does say a lot to me about age, but not relationship.

Search warrants also show police want to look into hard drives and computers found in what is believed to be Weerwat’s bedroom. Along with his door dash and Amazon accounts and a camera found in a different bedroom. As 6 News has learned more so has Andrew Whitney, who lives near the home where the homicides occurred.

“I saw a lot of damaged things come out. Some cracked and broken computer screens. And even still, a week after they had first come in, the smell was just wretched,” Whitney said.

As for the bodies in the freezer, police said they have not been identified yet and evidence is still being processed. Until police know more they say Weerawat remains a person of interest, not a suspect.

I do see two other Weerawats connected to Jason in East Lansing. Such an odd name, so assume these are his parents. Do we know for certain that they are alive???????

I do not know. Finding info on this fella has proven to be difficult!

The bodies have been identified as those of his mother and father.

Officials have been investigating the remains for months and used various scientific techniques to identify them.

His mother had some legal trouble in 2005/2006 after she declared bankruptcy subsequent to depositing the proceeds of the sale of a property ($130k) into an account owned by her son. She did not report the cash in her bankruptcy filing. She claimed not to be able to attend hearings because her son and his father needed her and her lawyer kept her whereabouts a secret. I wonder how long she and her husband had been missing before their bodies were found, and if the 2005 bankruptcy case was related in some way.
