What happened to Lilli Dunn after she went missing from her Southgate home in 1980

http://www.thenewsherald.com/news/w...cle_000598ed-107d-5178-9271-f5ee3f4272fa.html

Lilli Marlene Dunn, who was abducted from her driveway in Southgate in 1980, is likely dead, but friends and family may never know the exact circumstances of what happened to her.

July marks 38 years since Dunn was taken from her house on Agnes Street after a night of bowling.

The last action in the file was in late 2014 and early 2015 when a detective reached out to Dunn’s family members trying to get them to provide DNA samples. Both family members were “uninterested” in participating, according to Smith.

Without the DNA samples, it’s possible that Dunn’s remains have been recovered and are unclaimed. While unlikely, it’s also possible that Dunn is still alive somewhere, as well.

A former accountant for The Detroit News, she was 28-years-old with a husband and a 7-year-old daughter.

On the night of July 31, 1980, she came home from her bowling league at Schaefer Lanes in Dearborn between 2:30 and 3 a.m. When she took the garbage can outside, she was ambushed by a man in her driveway.

Two neighbors heard her screaming and watched as a man shoved her into a car and drove away.

Her husband was woken up by the struggle, but his wife and her abductor were gone before he exited the house.

Details of Disappearance

Dunn was last seen on Agnes Street in Southgate, Michigan at 3:00 a.m. on July 31, 1980. She'd left home at 6:30 p.m. to go bowling, then went to a lounge on Ford Road in Dearborn, Michigan with friends. She arrived home at 2:30 a.m.

Just after she parked her car in her garage, someone attacked her. Two witnesses saw what happened, but they didn't intervene because they thought it was only an argument.

An unidentified man forced her, kicking and screaming, into a late model light-colored (possibly yellow) Buick, Pontiac Grand Prix or Oldsmobile Cutlass. Authorities later found her purse, hairbrush and shoes on the street. The abductor is described as approximately six feet tall and 200 pounds with curly dark-colored hair. It's possible he followed her home from the lounge.

Authorities believe Dunn could have been a victim of the serial killer Coral Eugene Watts. A photo of Watts is posted with this case summary. He has twelve murders attributed to him, but is suspected of many more. His victims were young Caucasian women in Texas and Michigan.

Watts died of cancer while serving a life sentence in a Michigan prison. Dunn has not been confirmed to have been one of his victims, but she fits the profile.

Dunn was married at the time of her disappearance and had a young daughter. She previously worked for the Detroit News, and she was a part-time model at the time of her disappearance. Her case remains unsolved.

Case Summary

Lilli Marlene Dunn lived on Agnes Street, Southgate, Michigan with her husband, Mike, and their 7-year-old daughter, Leila.

Lilli was a petite, attractive blonde and part-time model. She was a member of a local bowling league and had formerly worked as an accountant for The Detroit News.

At 6:30PM on 30 July 1980, Lilli left home to join her league at Schaefer Lanes bowling alley in Dearborn, MI. After the game, she drove to a bar on nearby Ford Road to celebrate a girlfriend’s birthday. She arrived home sometime between 2:30 and 3:00AM on the 31 July, and parked her car in the garage.

When Lilli stepped out of the garage onto the driveway, she was ambushed by an unidentified male. Two neighbors were alerted by her cries for help and watched as the man forced Lilli, kicking and screaming, into a light-colored vehicle and drove away. Her husband was wakened by Lilli’s screams, but by the time he got to the driveway, she and her assailant were gone. Her purse, shoes, and hairbrush were scattered about the yard.

The eyewitnesses estimated the kidnapper to be around six feet tall and 200 pounds with dark, curly hair. Accounts agree that the perpetrator drove a light-colored GM vehicle; possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix, a Buick, or an Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Lilli Dunn is now on the Doe Network!
Lilli Dunn was last seen on July 31, 1980, returning to her home on Agnes Street from a bowling outing at 3:10 a.m. A witness saw Lilli kicking and screaming as she was dragged into a late model Grand Prix or Cutlass by a man described as about 6 feet tall, weighing around 200 pounds, with dark curly hair.

Police believe she may have been abducted by Coral Watts, a confessed serial killer. In 1982, after a plea bargain with several jurisdictions in Texas and one in Michigan, Watts confessed to killing 13 women. Coral died in 2007.
