This is so disturbing.
Truly horrific abuse.
Reminds me of the poor 7 year old girl who died in Laval, Canada.

2-15 year sentence is not enough.
Samuel deserved to live; how terrified he must have been in that cold water , restrained and unable to get to the surface.

Michigan dad charged after bound autistic son drowns in pool

"...A college professor in western Michigan whose severely autistic 16-year-old son drowned in an icy backyard pool in March has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse...."
"...his basement bedroom was bare and in deplorable condition, including a bed that was a bare mattress stained with feces..."

If you truly love your child you do not let his mattress be filthy.
You change and clean his/her bedding.

“They tried to make his world good,” said Joel Koets, Timothy Koet’s cousin. “The way they dealt with it was amazing to me. Just very patient, very loving. I couldn’t do what they did for a week. It takes a special kind of person to take something like that on. From my perspective, Tim and Michelle are both saints.”

‘A valuable human has lost his life,’ says judge who sentenced father to prison for son’s backyard pool drowning - mlive.com
"...After that, Koets asked his 13-year-old daughter if she had returned from school and asked her to check on the “freak.”

Saints don't call their son "freak".

"...Koets instructed the daughter to pull him out.
She informed him that her brother was stuck.
The father says to yell at him to come back.

She says she thinks he’s stuck and sends another photo, showing her brother in chest-deep water.
Moments later, he tells her to “pull his testicles out,” said Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective David Bytwerk at a previous court hearing...."

"Pull his testicles out." Brutal beyond comprehension.
So, the 13 year old daughter was supposed to be watching him ?
Why didn't they hire a professional caregiver ?

Koets’ 13-year-old daughter is subject of an abuse-neglect case in Ottawa County Family Court.

So the 13 year old girl was being mistreated as well.

This should not have been a 13 year old's responsibility. And now she has to live with this. :(

The photo of Samuel is troubling with the bruising and scrapes on his face. I can see why the child abuse charges were added.

Supposedly the mother was asleep after her work shift.
Why didn't she hire someone to babysit for her son ? Obviously he couldn't be left alone !
If the dad was a professor and the mother an RN --they should have had the funds for a caregiver.
Was Samuel eligible for a government social security check ?
Either way --it sounds like they didn't do this, either a sitter for him or use his social sec. check to hire help.

And it appears they also used his meds after Samuel was dead.
So possibly they (parents) stole his medication while he was alive ?

If the parents had been responsible and caring, he would be alive today. :(

But Paul Kraus, Ottawa County prosecuting attorney, said Monday that Samuel was “routinely" left unattended even though he could not care for himself. He said authorities had been called 15 times to the family home, mainly because Samuel “was unattended and had escaped from the residence.”

A cute photo of a younger Samuel at this link. :(

Rest in peace, Samuel.
I am sorry no one cared enough to protect you !

This case reminds me of the little boy who was pushed into a canal by his own mother.
Alejandro Ripley.
Samuel's bio donor said they didn't want to place him into a care home, but if they had-- at least he'd be alive.
Or at the very least to hire a full time caregiver for Samuel.
There's no excuse for neglect.
