A 35-year-old mother in Michigan was arrested over the weekend after police allegedly caught her in the act of attempting to drown her 2-year-old daughter in her bathtub in a horrific incident that was captured on police body camera footage. Jessica Deirdre Edward-Ricks was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, four counts of child abuse, and one count of simple assault, records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

Edward-Ricks, a mother of four kids, is also accused of stabbing the 2-year-old girl as well as her 4-year-old son and making both drink some kind of toxic cleaning liquid.

that video was hard to listen to
that's one tough baby - made to drink toxic chemicals, stabbed in the chest, drowned and now in stable condition in the hospital
hope all the kids have somewhere safe to live and never have to face that woman again in their lives

Albion mother in court after allegedly attempting to murder her children by drowning, stabbing

“(The 15-year-old) stated that she fought JESSICA for the knife, and that during the struggle JESSICA attempted to stab her.”

The teen said her mother also tried to stab herself. She recounted her mother saying she needed to “fix” the 2-year-old.

The 8-year-old told investigators that he went into his mother’s room when he heard screaming and saw her stab the 2-year-old and 4-year-old. He told them his older sister fought with his mother, telling her, “Give me the knife.”

“(The 15-year-old) stated that she fought with her mother for the knife, and that she was able to get it from her,”

The 15-year-old got her other siblings out of the house and they went to a neighbor’s for help.

She was ordered to undergo a mental health assessment. If released, she may not have any contact with the two children she is accused of assaulting and may not have unsupervised contact with the other two kids. She’s expected back in court July 11. If convicted, she could spend the rest of her life in prison.

Neighbors are collecting clothing, food and other necessities for the kids. Things for a 15-year-old girl, 8-year-old boy, 4-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl can be dropped off at the Albion Fire Department.
Albion woman charged with attempted murder of children

I hope the 15 year old knows how courageous she is, that she is a hero. I hope all these kids are able to recover from this event. I haven't seen anything about prior allegations of abuse, or whether to think this mother just had some sort of psychotic break or what but what a horrible thing for these children to have experienced.
