Found Safe MI - Robert, 87, & Lucille Fankhauser, 83, Kent County, 15 Oct 2017

The Fankhausers live in Spencer Township but are known to travel as far away as Ludington. They are driving a 2005 tan Buick LaCrosse with Michigan license plate 3862F9.

The couple regularly goes to the Greenville Meijer store, and records show their debit card was used there Sunday around 9 p.m. Also, a gas station clerk in northern Kent County saw them around 10:50 p.m.

Robert Fankhauser is 87 and hard of hearing. Lucille Fankhauser is 83.

I’m honestly shocked they were out driving around so late just because of night blindness that comes with age. My grandmother willingly quit driving when she felt it was no longer safe for her, granddad was a different story. After she passed away and his dementia became glaringly apparent, my aunt and I became his caregivers. He was a danger to himself and others on the road. We had to have his doctor contact the DMV to have his license revoked, removed his cars and keys from the home and even then he’d try to take our keys if they were sitting around for the next several months. He’d say things like “I didn’t have to have a license when I started driving” and “I’ve been driving long enough that no one (the police)will care.”
