For what it's worth, the direct route from Livonia, MI (where Sandra was last seen) to Portsmouth, OH (where her car was found) does pass through Columbus, OH (where she said she was going), lending credibility to Sandra's claim that she was going to Columbus.

However, Portsmouth is about 2 hours farther south beyond Columbus. So did Sandra make it to Columbus after all, only to be carjacked there? But for a potential killer to dispose of her car so far away from the crime scene seems risky, unless the killer himself had ties to the Portsmouth area.

Could Sandra have intended to go to Portsmouth all along for some reason? I doubt this. The trip is 5 hours each way, so we're looking at 10 hours of driving, plus an additional hour for her to do whatever she wanted to do. So unless Sandra visited her sister like right at the beginning of the workday (9am?), she wouldn't have returned till around 8pm. Did Sandra let her family know to expect her that late?

However, a 6-hour trip to Columbus (three hours each way) would have her back around 4-5pm, which sounds more reasonable to me. Hence, I think whatever happened to her occurred in Columbus, and the killer is connected to Portsmouth somehow.
