I like this judge. I see the father faces a trial too.

I'm glad she'll die in prison. I hope she has a miserable life. Whatever happened to the baby she was pregnant with?
That's a good question - I haven't heard anything else about it. Do we know what usually happens to the children when incarcerated women give birth?

From what I've been told and read at least here in Michigan how it's supposed to go is depending on the why's of incarceration, if "kinship" care isn't available (member of family doing foster/guardianship) then the babe is placed into foster care w/ a reunification plan. In long term sentencing, if kinship isn't available, then it goes right into a foster/adopt situation via the state or an agency contracted via the state.

In either scenario the babe is taken shortly after birth (within a couple hours).

Since I'm guess Michael is the father of this baby, I don't think he'd qualify considering he just got convicted of abuse via a different child/case. But we've all seen weirder things happen....

I don't understand why these people have children. A child is not a mechanism to manipulate others (keep the child only because daddy wanted him). All the time and energy put into abusing this child and ultimately killing him when all she had to do was say I don't want him, you take him, whether she said it to the father or the state I don't care. She could have freed her mind to invest in productive activities.

From April 2012:

http://www.michigansthumb.com/news/local/article_60a11409-4cc3-504a-b004-c8c0dc471135.html

Sean’s father, Michael Sowards, who is Herd’s son, pleaded no contest to second-degree child abuse in 2008. He received nine months in jail and five years probation.

Herd said on one hand, justice has been served for her grandson. On the other hand, many injustices happened during Sean’s life that could have and should have been stopped. Not only was Herd’s heart broken, but her eyes were opened. Not wanting her grandson’s death to be completely in vain, she wanted to do something to open other people’s eyes to the seriousness of child abuse. She started Sean’s Voice in 2008...

Herd, who moved from Macomb to the Port Austin area six years ago, also is a member of the Huron County Child Abuse and Neglect (CA/N) Council. She was elected to the board in 2010 and is the publicity committee chairwoman.
