Michigan, Florida police seek teen sisters believed to have been taken from Roscommon County home

PRUDENVILLE, MI — Police in Roscommon County are seeking the public’s help in finding a pair of teen sisters whom they believe were taken from their home.

Tamara Perez, 15, and Iris Perez, 13, were reported missing between 7:30 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28. The pair were taken from their adopted home in Prudenville, with Undersheriff Benjamin Lowe saying it’s unclear whose company they are in.

The sisters used to live in Florida, where their biological parents’ rights to them were terminated, Lowe said. They have lived in Roscommon County for several months, having moved north with their adoptive family, he said.

“It’s unknown right now whether the biological family are suspects in the case,” Lowe said. “We are currently working with Florida to try to determine if the biological family is involved in this or if it’s somebody else. We don’t have the answer to those questions yet.”

Surveillance cameras captured images of a newer model white Jeep Cherokee in the area about the time of the girls’ disappearance, Lowe said.

“We can’t say for certain if that is the vehicle that took the, but we suspect that it is,” he said.

Deputies have interviewed several friends of the girls, none of whom have had direct communication with them since their disappearance, Lowe said.

Deputies, the Michigan State Police troopers, the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center, and law enforcement in Florida are working together in hopes of finding the girls.

Police are asking anyone with information on the girls’ whereabouts to call the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office at 989-275-5101.

I wish they would clarify "taken" in this context. It seems more like picked up vs. kidnapped. IMO

The Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office initially began investigating the disappearance of the girls, with the FBI's Detroit field office joining the search this week.

The girls had moved from Florida to Michigan with their adoptive parents in March after being found in the Port St. Lucie, Florida home of their biological mother, whose had lost custody rights, according to the FBI.

Surveillance video from around the time of the Perez sisters' disappearance, coupled with the account of one juvenile witness, has led investigators to believe the sisters may have been traveling in a newer white Jeep Cherokee at some point.

Teen sisters have been missing from Michigan since June. The FBI is joining the search.

I went to check to see if they had resolved this case yet. Hopefully these kids did run back to their family. However the adoptive parents moving out of state make me have a few uncomfortable questions.Not accusing,just noticed. Nothing is coming up about them being found on google .

I have a sick feeling that the bio family had nothing to do with this. It’s been well over a year and the FBI is involved. If they had just went back to their bio mom surely the FBI would have seen them by now. I am going to hazard a guess that the FBI at least put the bio family under surveillance. There is also a possibility that the vehicle seen may have just been passing through and have nothing to do with this. I wonder if anyone actually saw them enter the vehicle. Also if someone saw them heading for the woods has anyone done a comprehensive search of the woods? I’m just throwing things out there because these girls need to be found. I’m sure their adoptive parents are worried sick.

Been following this one. My personal theory is that going back to the bio family played a part, but I don't think they made it. Like Linear13 said above, the bio family must have been thoroughly checked out, under the circumstances. My guess is that they may have fallen victim to whatever criminal element played a part in the bio mother losing parental rights. For example, by contacting someone they considered a family friend or even a relative, but that person took advantage of the circumstances and funneled them into a trafficking or other bad situation.
