Presumed Located MI - Vanessa Painter, 21, known to frequent two hotels in Southfield, 30 July 2022

Police are looking for a missing woman known to frequent two hotels in Southfield.

Vanessa Painter, 21, last spoke to her mother on July 30. Police said she is often at Red Oak Inn at 27660 Northwestern Hwy. and Marvins Garden Inn at 27650 Northwestern Hwy.

Painter is white with long brown hair and blue eyes. She weighs 130-150 pounds, and stands 5 feet, 6 inches tall. She wears clear framed glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Southfield Police Department at 248-796-5500.

Agreed. I worked in Southfield for many years. It’s a very busy area - partially quite wealthy, and partially a bit sketchy, just depending where you are. I’m curious if she was living in the motels, or if she frequented them for some other reason - total speculation, but if she is involved at all in sex work, it definitely could increase the chances that something happened to her at the hands of someone else (again TOTAL speculation - no info anywhere says she is a sex worker). Lots of hotels in the area, as lots of people come to Southfield for business. That means lots of non-locals around, who could easily flee the area once their trip is done. That makes me nervous.

I wish there was more info. When I search her name on Facebook I get one missing post <modsnip: discussing Fb comments>. It’s so upsetting. No matter the reason she frequented motels, she is still a missing person and deserves safety (I know you never implied otherwise!! Just replying to your post because you mentioned Facebook)

According to an MSP tweet, MSP Metro North detectives were contacted and made aware of a missing 21-year-old case the Lapeer State Police Post had been investigating.

For some reason Vanessa's NAMUS link comes up blank for me. Is there any info there or elsewhere that mentioned some connection to Lapeer? That's a decent distance from Southfield.

According to the map on NAMUS, Vanessa's last known location was in downtown Detroit, at or near The Checker Bar. She didn't actually go missing from Southfield but was known to frequent hotels there. There is mention of Lapeer. Speculation, of course, but VP could have been taken somewhere - anywhere - against her will. JMO

Where did Vanessa live, did she had an apartment somewhere? Or was she wandering? Doe she have a significant other, living in? I wonder why last known location in Namus is stated to be Detroit. What makes them know that?
