GUILTY MI - William Parnell, 56, beaten to death, Grand Rapids, 9 Sept 2009

After about an hour, a jury found Teivariol Davonte-Darnell Moore guilty of murder in the second degree. His victim was 56 year old William Parnell, who was beaten to death on September 9, 2009. He will be sentenced on June 18th.

In 2013, the Kent Metro Cold Case Team took a second look at the case. Investigators developed enough probable cause to obtain a search warrant for Moore's DNA. It matched physical evidence left at the crime scene.

On August 12, 2014, Moore was brought to Grand Rapids and interviewed by cold case investigators, where he admitted to his involvement in Parnell's death. Moore made the admission after police poked holes in his alibi.

“Thank God for Cold Case or he’d be still running around here living his life,” Larry Taylor said.

Even years later, Taylor says he’s haunted by the death of his oldest brother and deals with the guilt of not being there to help him.

“I can’t even go to funerals. I can’t even listen to slow music,” he said. “I just wish it could have been me instead of him.”

Man sentenced to prison for 2009 murder

A man was sentenced Thursday for a Grand Rapids murder that happened more than five years ago.

Teivariol Moore, 26, was sentenced Thursday to between 31 and 62 years in prison for second-degree murder in the death of William Parnell and between 4 and 30 years for perjury.

The sentences will be served concurrently, and Moore was given credit for 310 days served.
