What about Jacques Gerard Damidaux? He went missing October 14th 1988. So the year before. His namus page is The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
He looks like a good potential match, last seen in Miami Dade County, Miami. Roughly just a year over the age range. I’ll see if I can get his photo uploaded somehow!

This is a picture of Mr. Damidaux from his Charley page. Pretty darn good likeness in my opinion. The timeframe isn't perfect but close enough.
Interestingly, it says on Charley that a friend returned his car after his disappearance and remarked that he might have gone to the Bahamas. Say what now?? That is unbelievably suspicious. That friend needs to be tracked down and questioned like yesterday. If this UID (or any other) turns out to be Mr. Damidaux, my man has some serious splainin to do.

Or Johnny Trevino, MP21441, missing out of Texas under unknown circumstances on 3/12/1989. His younger pic shows his face shape a bit more clearly than the older one:

Yes, I can definitely see a likeness. It would be interesting to know more about Mr. Trevino. Unidentified decedents (especially males) found here in South Florida in the 70s, 80s and 90s could be from anywhere if they were associated with drug trafficking/dealing.
For the record, I am not saying that Mr. Trevino was in any way shape or form involved with drugs but would like to know more about him and his life leading up to his disappearance.

The only thing I could find was his gravestone in Harris County, TX; noting date of death is the same date he went missing:
