Hello. I am currently researching these crimes, and have submitted a records request with the Miami Dade PD. I have searched for all the victims, any resolution, and I have found NOTHING. Its quite terrifying. Certainly, of these nine victims, someone still remembers? They are not listed on any cold case database, have had no mention here. There is no mention in any paper after November 1970. So it appears these were never solved.
I am enclosing the newspaper article which is the last mention I have been able to find of these crimes. Victims names are as follows-
Mary McGreevy, died August 17, 1964
Sylvia Valdez, died March 8, 1963
Bernadita Gonzalez, April 3 1966 (also says in the article Feb 3)
Sherivon Wooten, August 16, 1969
Louise Danford, May 5, 1970
Ruth Boehner, June 2 1970
Mattie Ophelia Harris, August 5, 1970
Regina Bonnanno, October 10, 1970
Patrice Newkirk, October 21, 1970
All but one were white, all were strangled. There was a suspect, Calvin Jones Jr. He provided an alibi substantiated by his "common law wife", whom he later married in February of 1971. Interesting, perhaps he was doing this to prevent her testifying? In any case, appears she never had to.
I have also contacted a former Miami police reporter to see if she remembers the outcome of this case. Certainly, you would think they would have been proud to let the public know these were solved.
I am fairly new to Websleuths, long time lurker. So any tips or hints on any further methods of searching I would very much love to hear.
