CA Michael Britt, 30, May 5th, 1983 - Vina, CA (Tehama Co)

Michael Britt was 30 years old when he was shot to death on May 5th, 1983 in the town of Vina, nearby the town of Red Bluff, California. There is not much I can find online about the specific circumstances surrounding Michael Britt’s murder, unfortunately. If anyone out there can find more details about his death and post it here that would be amazing, btw. The data on the Murder Accountability Project website (Murder Accountability Project) lists his murder as still unsolved, the circumstances of his death as “narcotic drug laws,” and the weapon used as “firearm, type not stated.” The Record Searchlight Newspaper out of Redding, CA also has a list of unsolved murder data with Michael Britt on it that I’ve linked below, but it doesn’t give any further details.

It was through researching the 1983 unsolved murder of another Red Bluff resident, 14 year old Rashell Ward (CA - CA - Rashell Ward, 14, Red Bluff, 14 March 1983), that I found out about Michael’s murder. Micheal Britt lived in the town of Red Bluff and was allegedly involved with the drug community there. As you can see in the San Francisco Examiner article attached below, written in Dec 11th, 1985, there were enduring rumors that Micheal Britt’s murder and Rashell’s murder were connected in some way to a drug and child ring in Red Bluff/Tehama County that was allegedly run by people in power, including Law Enforcement members.

Sheriff RK was allegedly one of those LE members in the heireachy of this crime ring and Michael Britt supposedly had ties to him. At first you might think, as I did originally, that is is just a bunch of conspiracy theory stuff, but the more I’ve looked into it, the more I think there’s really something to it. Let’s just say there was a whole bunch of shady stuff that went down right around this time and the years following in Red Bluff, many centering around Sheriff RK.

Unsolved Homicides

About a week before his murder Michael Britt told another Red Bluff resident that the sheriff would not be arresting him because he knew who killed Rashell Ward.

I overheard a version of this story some time ago maybe three years now ago. It had a police car parked on a bridge and a good sumaritan stopping to see what was going on and a voice down below the bridge told the person to go away and to mind their own business. From what I understand this good sumaritan knew what cop it was and later when the news of michael being found near the bridge came out the whiteness no longer wanted to speak on the topic.
