Police are searching for a man after "serious concerns" were raised for his welfare.

Avon and Somerset Police has appealed for help to trace Michael Wheeler, 37, of Yeovil.

Officers have been unable to find him and believe he has not been home or in contact with anyone since 24 August.

As part of the investigation, searches have been carried out at Ham Hill, Stoke sub Hamdon, and addresses in Yeovil and Crewkerne.
Officers said Mr Wheeler's car was found abandoned in Yeovil, he has not been in touch with family or friends and has missed several regular appointments.

He also failed to appear at a court hearing for a motoring offence, which resulted in him being wanted.

Five men are currently in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

They are aged between their late teens and late 30s, the force said.

A sixth man who was arrested last week remains on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Lorett Spierenburg said: "We have been keeping an open mind over what has happened to Michael, who has now not been seen for a month, but we can confirm this is being treated as a murder inquiry.

"Arrests were made last week to enable us to question several individuals while under caution to understand if they knew anything that could help us locate Michael."

Four men charged with murder have been remanded in custody after appearing before magistrates in Yeovil today, Wednesday 25 September, in connection with the disappearance of Michael Wheeler from Yeovil.
Michael, 37, hasn't been seen or heard from since Saturday 24 August.
David Garland, 39, and Jack Rance, 28, both of no fixed abode, are charged with murder along with Mark Roberts, 38, and Reuben Clare, 18, both of Yeovil.
They will next appear at Bristol Crown Court on Friday 27 September.
This is devastating news for Michael's family and specialist officers are supporting them.
Enquiries continue and detectives still want to hear from anyone with information which could help. Please call 101 and quote reference number 5224244891.
Out of consideration for Michael's family, we are turning comments off on this post.
We would also like to remind people of the importance of not publishing any commentary or material, including images or footage, that could impact on or prejudice these live legal proceedings.

sad news RIP Michael
Police officers searching for a Somerset man who disappeared a month ago have found a body.

Michael Wheeler, 37, from Yeovil has not been seen or heard from since Saturday 24 August.

Acting on intelligence, officers searched a property in Yarlington, near Wincanton, on Wednesday 25 September.

A specialist search dog indicated the body at the location and crime scene investigators will now examine the site.

Sad news indeed. But at least the family can now grieve rather than not knowing, and hopefully the police investigation and post mortem will provide evidence to help in getting a conviction and taking a murderer off the streets.

Condolences to the family.
