Police say Lavergne burned the white pickup truck allegedly used in commission of the crime; the same truck that was captured by a City Hall camera near St. Landry Street and University Avenue about the time Shunick was also photographed on her bike.

On or about July 11, 2012, while incarcerated at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, BSL was booked on an outstanding warrant for altering his drivers license.
"Lavergne went to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office on May 28, three days after police released photographs of a Chevrolet Z71 pickup seen in surveillance video that also captured images of Shunick around the time she disappeared. Police say believe the pickup in the vido belongs to Lavergne.
Three days after he checked in with the Sheriff's Office, Lavergne reported his truck stolen in Montgomery County, Texas. Police say he burned the vehicle in San Jacinto, Texas.
Lavergne replaced the truck June 4 when he bought a new, white Chevrolet Z71 pickup from Don's Wholesale on Johnston Street in Lafayette."
Tom Shunick recalls installing the grips, saying he "fought and greased" the gold grips but could not get them all the way on the handlebars. Mickey Shunick purchased another set, but try as they might, Tom Shunick and his son, Zack Shunick, could not remove the first set of grips.
A Lafayette grand jury has indicted Brandon Scott Lavergne in connection with the disappearance of UL co-ed Michaela “Mickey” Shunick as well as the first-degree murder of a second woman, Lisa Pate, in 1999.
