A warrant has issued for Leon Mejia (aka Leon Mejia-Vincente), 46, for the rape and sexual abuse of a Child. Mejia-Vicente is a citizen of Guatemala, who up until recently was living in New Bedford with his two minor children (ages 17 and 5). Since the issuance of the warrant, Mejia-Vincente is believed to have fled the New Bedford area. As the whereabouts of the children are also currently unknown – the children are considered endangered. The police are seeking the public’s help in apprehending this suspect, Leon Mejia-Vicente, and locating these children as soon as possible. If you have any information, please call:

Massachusetts authorities were asking for the public's help finding a man wanted on a warrant for multiple counts of the rape and sexual abuse of a child.

New Bedford authorities said Leon Mejia-Vincente, 46, a citizen of Guatemala, was recently living on Madeira Avenue in New Bedford with his two minor children.

Bristol County authorities said they believe Mejia-Vincente fled the New Bedford area after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Tuesday, Mejia-Vincente's 17-year-old daughter attended her first period morning class at school and was last seen leaving school after that class and at a few locations in New Bedford later in the day.

Since that time, there has been no contact or any other sightings of Mejia-Vincente or his two children. The Mejia-Vincente and his children have strong ties to the Guatemalan community and all three do not speak English, investigators said.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said since the whereabouts of the children are also currently unknown, the children are considered endangered.

Man wanted in Mass. who fled with children apprehended in Connecticut, police say

The citizen of Guatemala, who was recently living in New Bedford, was wanted on a warrant for multiple counts of the rape and sexual abuse of a child.

A man wanted by Massachusetts authorities for sexual assault charges who disappeared from his New Bedford home last week has been captured in Connecticut, along with two children considered endangered by officials.

The news was confirmed Friday afternoon by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the New Bedford Police Department.

He is being held on $1,000,000 bond and will appear in court on June 20.

Children are unharmed and in the care of Department of Children and Families.
